I used to love these deals back in the PS3/Xbox 360 heydays of their end cycles. Now you are hard pressed to find 4 games in these categories in one physical location to make this deal work. Online option kills the deal with their $79 minimum for free shipping and no guarantee of original cases being sent. Not to mention their online inventory not matching the actual store inventory make this deal an effort in futility.

People will either love me or hate me for this, but here's the way I combat those problems. Last time I took advantage of this promotion, I ordered three copies each of the games I wanted. This earned me free shipping, and it also gave me pretty decent odds of getting original game cases. They had to ship from multiple locations to fulfill my order. Then I just cherry-picked the ones that were in the best condition and returned the extras to my local shop. When the store employee asked me why I was returning them, I just said I accidentally ordered three of each somehow. No other questions were asked, and the balance was returned to my Amex. Pretty painless and worth the effort if you are particular about keeping your collection in original cases, as I am. And I feel no shame for working GameStop's system. I'm not a hater, but they play enough games with promos and inventory and rolling price changes that I feel zero guilt for using their rules to my advantage when I can.

It's going to be near impossible to find a store that carries exactly what you want - it's more of a buy 2 - find 2 filler deal for sure.

What always drives me crazy trying to claim these deals is that GameStop's website won't let you stack promo codes (and they treat EVERYTHING as a promo code). They give away $5 reward codes like candy, but you can't use two on the same order. You also can't use a $10 promo code on an order with a $9.99 subtotal, which is infuriating during these sales.

With that said, if you have a GameStop Pro account and get a $5 off reward each month, this is still a great way to use it and get 4 classic games from a local store without paying for shipping. You won't find all your first choices in the same location, but you can usually find 1 or 2 great classic games and several reasonably good ones.

It also depends on the system you have. There are lots of good PS4 games at this price point that will work on PS5, but only if you have the model with a disk reader (which most people probably didn't spend extra for).
What are you talking about most people have the disc base console and it's not even close.

I went to 2 different stores today and it was so hard to find a game under $10. Still managed to walk away with 4 mediocre games, but nothing worth noting. Godspeed because it's slim pickings out there!

No way to filter for stores close to you, no way to filter for shipping available. I get they want you to come in the store but come on. I click a couple games that don't say "pickup in store" and the only availability is to pickup in store and none in 100 mile radius have it. Ridiculous.

Are you located in an area with more than one of the stores within easy driving distance? That's the only way I usually get in on these deals. Plus I made a stop at the nearby Best Buy stores to pick up a few clearance games (Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Complete Edition, Zombies Ate My Neighbors/Ghoul Patrol, both for PS4) for $14.99 each.

You can ask for the employees to print out a list of what they have up to $9.99 at Gamestop so it cuts down on the time spent checking the shelves. Not to mention sometimes they have stuff in the drawers but not on the shelf and those will show up on the list.

Something to keep track of :

If you EVER make an online order with gamestop during one of their promotions (any time you're getting a discounted price), and there's a delay in shipping (out of stock, etc) of one or more items, keep a close eye on your credit card.

Gamestop will often fulfill these delayed items days, weeks or months later, but when they do, you will be charged full price for them.

I have no idea why Gamestop thinks this is ok, but it happens all the time. Just be advised.

I've only ever had them give me the full value of the games from a BOGO or B2G1F. I didn't realize until AFTER the transaction was done and brought it to their attention. They told me to consider it a little bonus.
I had completely forgotten about this until I read your post, but the same thing happened when I was returning several games locally that I'd ordered online. The clerk said the system didn't know how to even calculate what I had actually paid for the items I was returning. I ended up using the iPhone calculator myself to itemize what I was due while he helped other customers in line and then when it was just us he accepted my math and did an override and refunded me exactly what I was due. I've always had good experiences with the store employees. Corporate though, different story.

It's funny seeing the out dated sports games in these deals, might as well burn them or give them away free. No one wants them. It feels like a lot of effort, but finding gems in this deal would be cool. Shame we can't order on the site with free shipping.

This deal is always a complete waste of time. Scroll through 25 pages of crap to find 4 things kinda worth buying, only to find out NONE are available for shipping and NONE are available for local pickup.

I bought a bunch of XBox and Switch games last time. All of the games that arrived worked fine. Most of the games came in the original box. The problem was that one or two of the games just didn't show up. I e-mailed GameStop three times before someone e-mailed me back. They did eventually make it right, refunding me for the portion that didn't arrive, but it still left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

I guess what I would say is that if you're willing to put up with some hassle, there's potentially a good deal to be had here, but I'm not sure I would do it again.
Same thing happened to me. I'm glad I'm not alone lol definitely left a sour taste.

This would be a good deal if i could find any of those in store. Gamestop is horrid at having any thing in stock.

Thanks, found 99% of what I picked online by just going to the store. The website is trash, bunch of stuff I was selecting was being flag as not in-store. Also the just show me games available in-store filters was just showing me everything, so every time a clicked on something it would later say just available for shipping. After getting frustrated I just went to the store and found everything.

With this sale they are basically trying to get rid of some stock and make space for the newer crap being traded-in these days.

Aren't most PC games just a code in a box at this point or if there are physical media they're locked behind a product key that's one use only? It's been a long time since I bought a PC game so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Yes, that is correct, but sometimes it's nice to just receive a physical case of some sort even if it only contains a digital code. I ordered Doom Eternal from Best Buy last year when it went on sale for $10 which came in a physical case enclosed w/ a digital code to activate it on Steam... Either way, what I typically do is save an ISO copy of the games that I download online and install onto my PC via Steam and once an exploit becomes available that allows me to play it offline, I utilize that option since I prefer to game while not being tethered to any sort of network or server. On another note, the last physical PC game I purchased from GameStop that came included w/ discs (DVDs) was Ubisoft's The Division 1 which was all the way back in 2016, smh.
