Yesterday I made the decision to switch from Verizon to AT&T for my family plan with 4 lines. Part of the process was making some account changes with the MyVerizon app so the process of porting our numbers goes smooth.

When I set up our Verizon account for porting out to AT&T, I magically received a text message the very next day:

"Hi, it's Verizon. Great news! As a way of saying thanks, we are applying a $10/mo discount to every active phone line on your account for the next 12 months. There is no action needed and you'll see it in the next 1-2 bill cycles. If you have questions please contact *611 to speak with a rep. Thank you for being a loyal customer!"

YMMV if it will work for you, but here are the steps to make Verizon think you are ready to leave them.

1. Open your My Verizon app.
2. Click on the Account icon at the bottom of the app.
3. Towards the top, it says "Hi (Your Name)" Click on the "Edit Profile and Settings" link underneath that.
4. On the Account Settings screen, scroll down to the Security section and click Number Lock.
5. On the Number Lock screen, turn off the Number Lock for each line. This enables other carriers to port out your line.
6. Go back to the Account Settings screen and click on Number Transfer Pin.
7. Generate a Number Transfer Pin. Since I already did it, I can't do it again right now in order to give you step-by-step directions. It was easy. You can figure it out.

And that's it. Wait a day or two and see if Verizon decides you are also a loyal customer worth giving a $10.00 per line loyalty discount for 12 months. YMMV.

Note: After a few days, go back into the app and turn Number Lock back on, so nefarious characters can't try to port out your phone number without your consent.

I have 6 lines on Welcome Unlimited for a couple of years and I just gave it a go. There are some missing details that would help, though. How many lines, what plan, and how long were you with Verizon? Did you search the Verizon site for guidance first or contact customer service around the same time as the app steps you mentioned?

Edit to save everyone time: It worked for me! Less than 5 hours later I got 'the text' and an email from Verizon, the subject was: "Great news [my name], a monthly discount has been applied to your Verizon account!"

-I have 6 lines on Welcome Unlimited
-I have more than 2 years with Verizon
-We have no phones on installment plans
-My account is based out of Oregon
-Consumer account with no other discounts
-Verizon credit card holder

Switched to T-Mobile from VZW after 15 years and will never look back. Cheaper, better, faster
Depends on your location/ city. I live out in the country and Verizon is the best

While number lock off, good to put a number pin in place (can be accessed from same page as number lock) to keep your numbers from being ported without a PIN code. Follow-up: I just got message that they will be taking the $10 off per line for next 12 months!

Got this text message as soon as I generated the pin:

Verizon Msg: We just created a Number Transfer PIN allowing your numbers to transfer to a new carrier. If you didn't request this, reply "CANCEL" or call 800.786.8274 now.

My cousin recommends switching to xfinity which is just lower tier Verizon. Anyone have experience with this? It's a lot cheaper.

Depends on location. I travel for work and had so many dead spots with T-Mobile. I would have to drive back to get service, just for my maps to work. It was ridiculous

Definitely can use some more details here.

Did you have any loyalty discounts previously? I already have a $20 discount on my one PlayMore line (now a legacy plan) and have doubts I'd get any additional. Worth a shot anyway.
