One difference is the battery type, Lithium-ion on the river pro, so only like 800 charges. Vs LiFePO4 and over 2000 charges.

Still learning about these things slowly - why are they calling this a "solar generator?" From the post title l thought this was a power station and solar panel combo (& at 700W, a surprisingly powerful one at that) for a dirt cheap price, and was gonna jump all over it until I didn't see a solar panel anywhere.

because people are idiots. You are absolutely right, these should be called Power Stations. Yes, you can attach a solar panel to it, but it still does not 'generate' the power but simply stores it.

700w is the AC inverter, these don't come with panels.
Yep, I gathered that, which is why I didn't bite. Appreciate the answer, tho. Any idea why they're calling these "solar generators?" That's what led me down the path of thinking it was bundled with a panel.

So... just more marketing BS (read: "thinly veiled lies"), then? I'm starting to see why so many people dump all over this brand. TYVM for the answer - repped.

The industry as a whole has been calling these things as generators for years. Jackery and Ecoflow have done it to.

Yeah, I've seen that. I know it's not a generator per se, but I can at least understand calling it that just to give people who don't understand electricity AT ALL the right idea of what it's meant to be used for - but calling these SOLAR generators just seemed to cross the line a bit too far to be reasonable, so I was wondering if I was missing something.

I wonder how the Ecoflow refurb's are? I was hoping to hit up the Coscto event; however, it seems like none of the local admin people are even aware of their scheduled drop-in. So, maybe they cancelled their trips to coscto locations.

Seeing as they have direct-to-sell refurbs it might be a good alternative.
I purchased a ecoflow river 2 pro refurbished from eBay. It looked brand new and works great. It comes with 5yr ecoflow warranty and 2 year ebay (allstate) warranty.

Ecoflow is superior in product quality and customer service. Bluetti is a joke.
it pays to shop around, SD has a lot of these power stations on sale. Several on that walmart page. I'm on my second defective "name brand", I'll have to look but I returned one right away for being too loud and had hot spots, not the charging kind. The other cheap one I did a charge back with Paypal intervening

Not an expert but these guys have short return windows, expecting not many to put something through it's paces and test the gear. I don't want to spend a lot but I'm thinking I may have to for quality

I always just assumed it was to sound fancier than simply "battery", but there is an implication of some additional built in hardware to manage charging and discharging through various means.

I think the only reason it's considered "fair" by most people is these do have a solar charge controller built into them, which does make them a lot more plug and play.
Compared to just a brick battery, you're getting something much closer to a gas generator, in this case minus the "fuel"

I have a jackery and I got some really cheap panels a couple months ago and it's fun to toss it out on the lawn and get free energy to charge phones and stuff lol.

not sure, power company notification was vague and I don't get local paper. Pretty isolated case but there have been others last year that were far larger outages. Suspects said they were planning robberies when power was out. However there are others that may be acts of domestic terrorists, there are instructions on the web for it.
Thanks for info, probably people shooting at transformers in power stations like a few years ago.

It's going to depend on the lights, but almost certainly. My 140 lumen string lights I use for camping draw a bit less than two watts of battery life, so I'd get close to 300 hours with these. A typical household 60 watt LED bulb is around 8 watts, so you'd be able to power around 10 of them for five hours with conversion losses. You need to know the power requirements of your lights.

Right. There is so much to test. 3 power inputs, 4 power outputs, capacity, peak wattage, noise, heat, and most people only use these when needed, which might be once a year. I had a Rockpals that didn't accurately show the remaining charge, so it'd go dead around 60%. I was able to return that in the 30 day window. I have a Bibene, which is just a Chinese unit that gets rebadged every so often, that has been fantastic for 3 years, but now it's having issues showing remaining charge. I have two other smaller non-name units that have been fine for 5 years, but they are simple units and rarely get used. I wrote off Ecoflow a couple of years ago because their super fast charging was supposedly burning out people cigarette lighter plugs in their vehicles and that was an important feature for me. It's probably not an issue anymore.

These Bluetti prices seem like a great deal on the surface and I found at least one youtube review showing that this PS72 is a nearly identical or updated version of the EB70 for about $200 less. Seems like they are only selling them at Walmart and their Ebay store.

It does look like some product manufactures are now categorizing their units as portable power stations, home power stations, and solar generator kits, but the marketing seems to get blurred when looking at reseller websites like Home Depot and Amazon.

I have to hard disagree on the "off brand" comments earlier. I think Bluetti is one of the best brands for these devices. For example, they actually disconnect the battery once full when using the plug on the device while the battery is plugged into the wall, so the battery doesn't cycle and wear out when used while plugged in as a backup source. Most of these battery stations don't do that, and you shouldn't leave them plugged in while using them. You can use this one plugged in, with the battery ready to take over if the power goes out. It's also LiFePO4, which is the safest chemistry and a requirement to be used in my house.
