As a frequent traveler, I can provide some feedback. First, packing cubes are great to organize your suitcase. You can quickly unpack, repack. And you can go from hotel to hotel without hassle.

If you travel a few times a year, it is worth having packing cubes.

When buying packing cubes, you want sturdy canvas fabric. Because cheap canvas will quickly fray. Double stitching and a binding (piece of fabric that covers the join to preview fraying) is important for durability.

Nets are the best way to allow the contents to air out/breathe. It also lets you view the contents. More net is better. When you see clear/frosted plastic to let you view, then check its thickness. Personally, I think of frosted and clear plastic as cheap and not durable. It will crack or tends to be very thin.

You should always have double stitching along all joints. The strength of these joints are what holds it together and lets you stuff the cubes. The stitching should not be loose. If you can pick at a stitch and it lifts up, that is not a good stitching. Compare that to your clothing... if you had a loose stitching then you know your clothes are going to fall apart.

If you travel once a year, then cheap packing cubes may last you 2-4 years. If you travel a few times a year then cheap packing cubes won't last more than a year before it starts falling apart.

I have eBags packing cubes that I have used on and off for 10 years. They are expensive. And I think you can probably find good quality for about half the price of eBags' list. But if you just want to get it over with and want something that will last, go with a brand like eBags.

I have never tried Veken. But I have recently bought some cheap packing bags from Amazon. One set is very lightweight and I expect will fray (though their name had Gorilla in it so I thought they would be heavier duty). Another is heavier and much better canvas but with loose stitching.

Packing cubes are very useful for travel. Good luck!

My eBags ones have held up great for 10 years. Not sure if they still make them like that. I'm not the type of person that is delicate with their stuff either.

Go.nex (remove the period from the brand name) is the brand that I have used for the past few years. The bags are good quality and have lasted me many trips (road trips, flights, camping, and more). They have 3 or 4 pack variants and have many colors, which is great for differentiating each person's item if sharing a suitcase(s). Keeps items compact and clean especially if you have shoes in your suitcase. Can carry a small one to the pool with a change of clothes or during a day trip to the beach. The zippers work great and have not gotten stuck on the fabric. Purchased on Amazon in 2020 and 2022 and the quality has stayed true over the years. It is on sale right now for around $24 which is around what I paid last year for the 4 pack and I think it is well worth it.

I find that normal packing cubes take up more space than rolling & sectioning off your own suitcase. Compression packing cubes do help make more space, but they do cost more.

These are cheap though, so if you just want to be more organized for your suitcase, no harm in trying them out.

But I'd go with the compression cubes or ones you can roll out to take out the air.
I travel alot. Ideally these are to stay organized. You check into a hotel and can pull out a few packs of clothing and toss them in a drawer etc. I am mostly wash and wear not iron type clothing. When you open your suitcase or customs does it doesnt have clothing all over the place. They are really not something for compression or to save alot of space. By sheer organization and how they work, they may save a little space. But the main benefit it to merely keep things organized.

Great deal. I bought two packs of these for 40+ bucks while traveling to Guam and it made it way easier to pack and separate clothes for the baby, wife and myself. Not too much compression power but if you roll up your clothes you'll find that youve got alot more space to work with.

You're both right... these are good for organization. However, the other poster is also right in that it takes up more space. These packing cubes will never save space, and will always take up more space.

It all depends on how you pack and travel. If you're trying to minimize luggage for whatever reason, then you can fit a lot more if you simply roll your clothes and place neatly. I do this for a family of 4 and can maximize my luggage space/weight allowance if that was my desired goal.

However, the tradeoff is it's difficult to find clothes and it's guaranteed NOT to stay organized as you dig into the luggage to find what you need, thereby messing everything up. The packing cubes make it very easy. You can organize to your preferences and makes it that you are always neat and organized. Packing cubes are almost always a better experience if you don't have to jam pack your luggage and can pack loosely (relatively).

Another essential item to save space on the return trip is a compression stuff sack for dirty laundry. If you've ever used a laundry bag/plastic bag for dirty clothes, you know how much space it takes up. With a compression stuff sack, it's literally a fraction of the size. The lower quality compression stuff sacks break at the buckles if you try to cinch it up tight.. but everybody always tries to cinch it up tight. The higher quality ones are pretty expensive.

At least the way I use them it doesnt take up more space, it doesnt really save space. Organizing only. I have no idea how it can take up more space the way i do it. Also pack lioghter and smaller. It makes life easier. I say that even though I get more baggage allowances due to airline status etc. The bags stack nicely for me in the suitcases. I put the directy stuff in the bags as well. The ones I made which my company sold have never torn, they are as good or better than ebags etc. Zippers dont get stuck. No tears and I sometimes have a good amoutn in them.

if you're rolling clothes up, you're basically "compressing" every single piece of clothing individually, taking up less space and basically being able to fit more. If you use compression packing cubes, those will take up less space than regular packing cubes. However, not everybody needs to fit "more." You just need to fit enough, and if enough allows you to use packing cubes, then I do recommend it.

Which packing cubes do you use? Do you ever overstuff your packing cubes and still zip them up? (I do that a lot!). It's always good to have some quality packing cube recommendations.

I actually carried a similar product. We sold for 20-22.00 a set. But we used the YKK good zippers and our seams didnt fall apart. Some of the overseas companies get tons of reviews (wink wink) and people want the absolute cheapest price regardless. At this price the seller is just trying to push to the top since Amazon charges comissions and shipping+sotrage fees+pull and pack. You getting this item overnight is not free. This here is a loss leader to get sales at higher prices.
YKK zippers have been around for decades. I've seen only a few zippered products with YKK zippers in recent years. Non YKK zips are inferior quality. Most or all of my zipper failures were non YKK.

Thanks! Can you link to "compression stuff sack"? Is that the same as the vacuum one the other poster mentioned and, if so, how are you guys finding a vacuum on the road?

no, not the vacuum kind. It's just a regular stuff sack that has straps... so you can pull tight the straps to compress the contents and make smaller.
