Temp loss to plastic is lower than temp loss to metal elements, so they can maintain more consistent brew temp across the length of the brew.

I own the larger model with the thermal carafe, by far the best drip coffee maker I've ever used (and I've used MANY). We have used it daily for 5 years, zero issues. That said, I would personally avoid the hot plate model. The thermal carafe works great and no burnt coffee taste ever.

This. I am replacing an OXO 10-cup with this and am tired of the thermal carafe that people rave about. Yeah, everyone talks about scorched coffee but I haven't experienced it unless the hot plate has been on for 4+ hours on my old ninja. I put some in my thermos for work most days, but when I'm home the coffee is noticeably cooler after an hour. If you only have one cup or won't have any more in under an hour, then thermal is fine. I have a couple cups over a couple hours on my days off so I can't wait for this and having a hot plate back.

Have had the glass carafe version of this for the past year, glass is pretty thin but haven't broken it yet. This looks like a pretty good deal. Always found that the thermal carafes are more trouble than they're worth.

My previous grind-and-brew model had a thermal carafe, and with the exception of the first or occasionally second pot, I still had to reheat the rest of the pot in the microwave. The carafe is probably fine for people who don't care if it's not the same temp as fresh brewed, but I do.

My current machine's hot plate only stays on for about 2hrs, which is fine with me. I drink most of a pot in that time, and only have to reheat the last cup or two.

This is an excellent machine, I have used mine for about a year or more. Got a deal for $220 from nordstrom rack. Makes the best coffee, to be honest even $7 ground coffee from TJMAx tastes good in this thing. Just a couple of notes and things I learned about this product:
- Works best with very clean water (I use RO water so it stays spotless inside and no need to descale).
- Unfortunately all components are hand wash only, so cleaning after using it takes a few minutes. This is more of a "pro" anyway, there is no toxic plastic hardeners used, thus components cannot go into dishwasher.
- If not using every day, I find it best to remove shower head and turn unit upside down over sink to drain residual water to avoid mildew formation.

Plastic can actually be preferable because it doesn't leach out heat from the water the way that glass/metal do. That's why plastic pour over cones like the Hario V60 are usually recommended over their metal/ceramic options.

Lots of hate on the glass carafes in here but I'm a fan of glass aesthetically and functionally. The hot plate for me is always set to half power, which hasn't presented any issues, and shuts off after two hours. I like that I can easily visually assess from afar how much coffee I have and also the ease of cleaning of the carafe. I've had issues with hydroflasks and the like turning gross from coffee, not sure if that would happen with the thermal carafe but it'd always be on my mind. Unlike a lot of folks in these types of threads I won't say it's "better" because I have no experience with the thermal carafe - just saying I'm very happy with mine and would recommend this to anyone.

I bought one with a thermal carafe on Facebook marketplace for $50, the coffee was okay but honestly it wasn't any better than what my ninja coffee maker makes, and the ninja is so much easier to use so I sold the Mochamaster

I've had this exact model for a few years now. The unit is very light and feels cheap when looking at the thickness of the stainless steel and plastic used. The included coffee ground scoop is made of the cheapest plastic I have ever seen and eventually started cracking at the handle after a couple of years. The glass carafe is also very thin glass and my wife had a breaking streak that lasted a couple months where we went through 3 of them at $40 a pop. Due to lightly hitting the carafe against something hard in the sink that would cause the carafe to shatter. I kept thinking why hasn't a third party developed a thicker/sturdier carafe for the same price. I recently saw that there is now a third party carafe on Amazon that advertises all these improvements. The shower that distributes the water over the coffee grounds also doesn't wet them evenly if you are making 8-10 cups. I often will take a spoon and splash the hot water on the edges of the coffee grounds that don't get wet since the shower only pours in the middle. Despite the build quality/design issues I have with the machine especially when looking at the cost, it does make amazing coffee. If it wasn't given to me as a gift, I would have probably returned it. That being said, this price makes it a more reasonable purchase.
