On any given day/sale the exact tool I want is rarely on special or an amazing price. But for those who keep a wishlist of them and track the prices you can get some amazing deals at DTO.
It's common knowledge now that factory blemished at DTO is brand new not blemished and only labeled as such to get around TTI's exclusive Home Depot contract.
Picked up a bunch of lights I need last week for under $22 each. They're $89 each at Depot and best sale at HD ever has been $45 on them. Over the last few years I've gotten many similar wishlist items.
Takes a bit of time and patience, but can definitely get far better deals on DTO when things line up. And unfortunately in recent times you usually need to be ordering a number of items to not have the shipping fee affect the deal as much.
It's not a scam and is--for many things, but not everything--a significant savings. For example, with this deal, the bug zapper is $50+ shipping at DTO (factory blemished, which as others explained is same as new) versus $132 at Home Depot.
Folks stanning are referring to the pre-Short days.
Folks crapping are referring to the Nu Normal.
As fate would have it, both camps are correct. There used to be some pretty decent Ridgid deals on the regular from DTO (blemished with full warranty) but it seems very likely the rumors of short sellers alerting HD to this phenomenon are indeed true - it's like a complete 180.
the more I've looked at direct tools, the more I realize how much a scam it is. I can get a factory blemished ryobi framing nail gun for 389 with battery which is a "big saving" and pay 15$ shipping or I can buy a non factory blemished one brand new with battery from home depot with free shipping for 389. It holds for most of their items.
You need to be patient and wait for the right sales. I got a Ridgid planer with a lifetime warranty for $220. Go find me anything close to that at Home Depot.
The framing gun is almost never on sale. It's kinda a joke at this point. If you watch the final prices some of their sales are better than others, have to essentially decide how long you want to wait, and if you want to chance it on a return vs blemished.
Have they ever been on sale? That is the one tool I've wanted for months....
You can do well here but your best is to track items for awhile and buy on the right sale. For example, I've been eying the whisper fan 40v for six months. It got down to ~$89.00 . This sale it is marked final price $110.

As others have said, it's totally product dependant AND individual sale dependant.
I managed to pick up a 40v 1800w power station for $325 new/factory blemished, at a recent 50% off sale. Have never seen it available at that price before and have never seen it available again since.

Agreed!
This blower is $139 + $15 shipping on factory blemished thru DTO.
OR $134 at Home Depot. In store or online with free shipping. Oh and non "factory blemished"

Like a true SDer, patience is a virtue, as it is in general.

I've been tracking the 600psi power washer for close to 6 months. I've never seen it budge from its $99 price. Unfortunately at this point that is about the only thing I want that is made by Ryobi. I've picked a lot of things from them over the years but I'm lucky and have a store near by so I don't have to worry about shipping. Also have found better prices in store and they also have dewalt tools there.
The 40V 14" air cannon fan looks good at $110, but personally i am going to wait till end of the year/January when DTO typically has their lowest prices. Not a guarantee but that has been the case for the past few years
It's gone down to under $90 in the last few months.

Does anyone have any experience with the bug zapper? Is it any good?
I bought that same pressure washer attachment for $22 during a previous sale and i just checked my email receipt and it was listed at $36.99 MSRP back then. I'm not sure when it was ever an MRSP of $79.99 but this is just further proof that DTO just jacks up the prices for these "sales" trying to con unknowing people into thinking they actually are a deal.

DTO has to sell as "Blemished" due to their contract with Home Depot.

DTO often has 40% off everything sales and it would put the blower at $107 and may be in stock at a local DTO at that time.
