This knife has a reverse scalloped edge which is designed to help you cut through things like bread, fruits, meats, etc. It's a sawing type motion with a very sharp edge. The "Ikon" means it has an African black wood handle with smoother curves versus the classic has a synthetic handle. It's considered more premium and I prefer the grip myself. This is definitely a good deal.

Edit: Not a wood handle because this is the "classic Ikon" as someone else mentioned and is a hybrid between the two.

This is the Classic IKON so it uses the same synthetic material for the handle as the Classic line. This is a hybrid of the IKON shape with the Classic's material. I just want to make sure no one is buying this expecting the wood handle.

This is NOT true. You can hone a serrated knife just like any other knife to keep a straight edge on it. The problem is honing a serrated blade by hand is it takes a lot longer as you have to do it in sections with a gentle touch. If it gets very dull they have mechanical sharpeners made for serrated blades.

Knives aren't disposable...they're not razor blades. They require maintenance. The quality of the steel used, the method of construction, and your cutting technique all determine how long it will stay sharp.
You can but 99% of people will not spend the time to do that or learn how to do that at home. Really a huge waste unless you are a chef or work at some sort of bread/meat store.

Save your money for a nice $200 8" chefs knife, this thing should be dead last on your list of knives to get.

I bought one of these 10 years ago. The reverse scalloped blade on this knife is so versatile. Works in a cinch as a bread knife or slicer (I've used this knife for everything from slicing tomatoes to carving jamon). Easy breezy to sharpen. I'd be in for one if my current one wasn't still like new.

I would avoid specialty knifes like this. Even if you are slicing deli meats often, you likely won't be reaching for a special knife to do so.

Here are the knives worth investing in:
1. 6-8 inch chef's knife (depending on your hand size)
2. 3-4 inch paring knife
3. 5-7 inch boning knife (for butchering poultry and smaller cuts). Also fileting fish and chicken.
4. scimitar (for breaking down large beef cuts)

I don't even recommend a "bread knife" because you can better cut bread with your chef's knife if you keep it sharp, and that's a good reminder to pay attention to your knives.

Not necessarily, a few articles and input from chefs on various forums state if you were building set then the common first three knives to get would be a chef knife, a paring knife, and then a bread knife.
I don't bake any bread or buy many unsliced loaves so it's not important for me but I did pick up on a 7" scalloped serrated Shun Kaji knife for $99 during their factory-seconds/blemish sale to fill the niche of a tomato/fruit/bread knife

Don't buy expensive serrated knives. You can't sharpen them so after a while it's no better than a $2 Walmart knife. I can buy 35 cheap serrated knives for $70.
This is wrong, you give advice without knowing what you are talking about. You can sharpen them. They sell a tool just for this and it takes maybe 2 minutes

Do you have a link? Really considering this knife, but sharpening is holding me back

I love my chef's knife but from my experience there are tasks that a decent serrated slicing knife does better. Especially if it has an offset handle. Based on a recommendation from Anthony Bourdain, years ago I bought a 7" F. Dick offset handle bread knife. $29 from Amazon. We use it every day for bread, tomatoes, anything soft or squishy. And, without any additional sharpening, it cuts as well as when we bought it.

Yeah, I know quality knives require maintenance. I have an 8" Wüsthof chef knife, a Gyuto, and several nakiris. I hand sharpen them on my King whetstone. But you can't do that with a serrated knife. You either sharpen every tooth by hand with a triangle ceramic rod or send it to a professional. And serrated knifes are not used often enough in the kitchen to be worth the hassle. Just buy another cheap walmart one when it gets dull.

Good find. I just don't know what this kind of knife is used for.
I already have the Henckels version of this knife and I love it. Ordered this one as well. These are perfect for cutting artisan breads or meats. The regular bread knives have a hard time with crusts that are on the tougher side, such as the whole wheat sourdough.

I've tried a ton of serrated knives and the difference between the premium ones and the ones you buy at Walmart is the amount of flex. My Henckels has no give so you can lean into it as hard as you need to and still get a clean and even cut. I can even push down on it for the bottom crust.

Amazing for the meats as well. If you cook with lower quality meats or make beef jerky, this will cut through any kind of tissue and won't mind if you hit a bone. Your normal German chief's knife will usually dull from this action and your Japanese one may even chip, but this one just keeps on cutting. A really good buy for anyone who is not sharpening their knives religiously.

Confused

You can buy a $20 pull through wheel sharpener for serrated knifes.

Never mind what I said. That knife was just delivered and it's nothing like the Henckels. It's basically a regular bread knife, just shaped differently. It's about 50% lighter than the Henckels and it flexes like a cheap Chinese knife. Definitely not keeping it. Such a disappointment, especially from Wusthof.

Just received mine.
Older make with the "200 years of knives" labelling (2018) that came before their current rebrand and engraving redesign.
Wasn't in retail packaging but instead in a generic whitebox sealed by Wusthof themselves. Inside the knife was simply sheathed in a cardboard sleeve like those purchased in sets. Think the catch for the good price is they're singles out of sets sold in non-retail packaging.
