The price is great but wondering if the firmware can be change to a normal Seagate x18

This YT person goes over the DELL x18 firmware and how its different from exos x18 sn04

link [youtu.be]

if you watch from the beginning you can get a sense of noise level and such on X18 series.

What are the limitations with dell firmware on those drives?

As far as I know, there aren't any limitations. Still just works like a hard drive.

Seems to be almost identical to the stock Seagate firmware, other than not having low current spin up or allowing idle timers to be changed. I've had good luck with the manufacturer refurbs, but don't know about these seller refurbs for $10 less.

In terms of the warranty, it's going to be from spd.. I read from several sources that they rma with very little hassle.

Amazon has exact same deal and it says 90 days return. In for one from Amazon.

I'd probably opt for this vs the regular 18tb exos for a few bucks more, but I am tempted to wait. I've seen several deals in the middle of nothing (no special occasion) that made me think bf/cm might be special this year. I've been mostly disappointed in recent years, overall deals have been meh for multiple years, but maybe serious markdowns are finally inbound. Might be good to conserve dry powder.

I picked up one from Amazon, and I'm very happy with it. 28 power on hours; 17 power on count out of the box.

Just as a heads-up, if you're using Windows (and NTFS) and a partition manager program to clone your existing (less than 16 TB drive), you'll likely see that the partition software won't create a partition larger than 16 TB on the new drive. This is due to the partition software also copying the (default) 4096 cluster size from the source drive, and you can't have an NTFS partition >16 TB with that default cluster size. Instead, use Windows built-in partition handling, and it'll automatically choose the next cluster size up (8000-something). You'll then get the full partition size, and just use robocopy with the copy options you want to copy from old drive to new drive.
