These kits include a carboard spacer in the bottom of the case to make it look like it's completely full of product. Remove that (or flip it around so it nests in the bottom - it's open on one side) and there's plenty of extra room for a Bic mini lighter, fresnel lens, book of matches, a birthday candle, vaseline-impregnated cotton balls, etc. An even more complete fire starting kit.

Here's a cheaper, easier to use fire kit: a mini bic and some laundry lint. Or other kindling of your choice, but there's no reason to spend $12.

I used to have fire starters of various types until I realized that I could just carry an extra mini bic on my camping trips.
