Conedison is having a sale on Thermostats for Energy Efficiency Day.
I may get the ecobee3 lite myself for heating season since my new apt uses gas heating that is metered.
Other utilities may also be having a similar sale.

Bub
As for the product, Nest sucks the big one. Long story short I wound up getting 6 for our home to upgrade from dumb tstats to programmable ones to save $$ on gas. I previously had Sensi ST75 at another home. Nest just blows. Interface is like it was designed in 1985. Buggy too - every few months each tstat will complain it has low battery - which is odd because they are hardwired, with new batteries. Turns out thats a bug and you just take them out, take the batteries out and leave it for like 30 minutes.
But the kicker was during a real cold snap last winter I had to fly to the west coast. I get a message from my wife saying that the heat wasn't on in a spare bedroom where the MIL was staying. Basically the tstat had forgotten itself - I couldn't see it in the app (in a plane above the midwest), and of course she had no idea what she was doing, so I had to walk her through reconnecting it to the Home app WHILE I WAS ON A farkING PLANE.
Goodbye trash Nest crap. Yes, I spent about $300 retrofitting all the Nest devices back to ST75 that I know work.
