My family prefers side by side vs french door. My parents can't bend over due to back/knee in order to take things out of the freezer in a French door. Also, it's hard to pull things out of the bottom of the freezer bucket, have to move everything on top first. It's hard to tell what's down there in the books and crannies of the freezer bucket. Side by side, there's many shelves so can stay more organized and can peek all the way to the back most of the time.

For us... The freezer section is more convenient to find things stacked up shelf by shelf.

Bought for $1300 in April 2022. Would recommend as as a no frills reliable fridge. We like side-by-side over French door because you don't have to bend over and hunt for stuff. More room and access for bigger frozen items.

Probably means it's not an overpriced subzero. This is a great fridge and I bought it for a little less in 2018 (or a model that looks identical). It has performed perfectly and for the money I can replace it 3 times and still have spent less money than a subzero where I can't find that refrigerant anymore for the compressors when they fail. Only drawback is the overpriced water filters.
Filter the water before it goes into the fridge with a RO setup.

Lot of folks here seem to like side-by-side. But it's the opposite for us. We have a side by side (came with the house we bought), and we don't like it at all.

The problem is that most people have bowls or containers that won't fit neatly till the edge. And so there is always some space wasted near the side walls where nothing can fit. On a side-by-side the width of each shelf is so narrow, quite a lot of space gets wasted. Practically this means that even though the fridge may have the same volume, the number of items you can fit into the fridge is significantly reduced.

As a hypothetical example to convey via math - Case A you have 10 shelves, each being 30" wide. All your bowls are 8" wide. You can fit only 3 bowls side by side on each shelf. That makes it a total of 30 bowls from top to bottom. In case B you have 5 shelves which are 60" wide. Now you'll fit 7 bowls on each shelf. That makes it a total 35 bowls. Despite volume available being the same in each case, Case B can fit more stuff.

Of course, this was just a hypothetical example to illustrate my point. In actual use you'll always find some small item to fit on the sides. But the point is that we find that we have to do space management a lot more often on a fridge with narrower shelves, than what we needed to do on a regular wide fridge. We are pretty sure when we replace this fridge it won't be a side-by-side.

Guess what I'm saying is that each design has its pro and cons. The pros of the side by side were well put in an earlier post. I'm just pointing out the con. You have to consider what works best for you.

Same for me. I don't know I should throw it or not. It's pretty new. It's hard to arrange thing in the fridge. And also it's hard to see the food and left them expired.

Q: why would anyone get a side by side over a French door? Just seems inconvenient.
I owned two French door and went back to side by side. I have a small drop freezer too so I have best of both worlds. Side by sides are faster and easier to grab items. Cheaper too. My last one only made it 7 years and was leaking freezer drain got frozen with ice over. Lots of issues. Frigidaire brand. Never again that brand.

*knocks on wood* but the only appliances I've had in all the homes I've lived in have always been Whirlpool or Amana (owned by Whirlpool these days). Washers, dryers, fridges and dishwashers (only chest freezers I ve bought from a different brand). I have a fridge very similar to this one and its about 20 years old. My washer and dryer in this house are too (prev owner left them). Other than cracking of some trays in the fridge i need to replace now - they never had a hiccup, same with the other appliances. Just for microwaves im a fan of LG or Sharp inverters.

If my dishwasher goes I'll probably get a Bosch or something but other than that I get some twisted satisfaction after hearing someone's Kenmore/Samsung/LG broke down again. All anecdotal I know but after going through about 5 homes and never having to replace a whirpool/Amana appliance or needing expensive fixes, hope the positive streak continues.

I will never buy an appliance from Costco ever again. They use awful local faceless delivery companies who only exist for these contracts with big warehouses and provide zero customer service and do not care about delivery dates. After literal weeks of not receiving my fridge last year, I cancelled the order and bought from Lowe's for nearly the same price. The next day an actual Lowe's truck showed up for a perfect delivery.

Yes they do. Regularly.

You are one of the few smart ones.
This Fridge is a dumb purchase for majority of kitchens. protruding 13" beyond the cabinets just looks lame.
Dimensions - w/ hinges, handles & door (WxDxH)36 in. x 34.88 in. x 69 in
Dimensions - w/ door open 90° (WxDxH)36 in. x 51.13 in. x 69 in.

Dings, scratches and more.

Whirlpool has a big issue with the wires getting pinched/broken under the lower freezer door hinge. Cut off the power to the icemaker. Not fixable except by purchasing a new $1300 door!

I tried but a mod deleted it. Look around for Kenmore 9081 filters. Currently available at Walmart for $18 for a 2-pack.

You're smart! I made the mistake of buying a Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex fridge in November 2021. Fridge was $3000. It was great for the first year and the quietest fridge I had ever owned. Well, a few months ago it started to make a periodic buzzing noise and eventually it stopped cooling completely in the fridge and freezer. Samsung repair tech is coming tomorrow to replace the sealed system because it failed. New compressor, evaporators, tubing, etc. Samsung has a two-year warranty for this fridge so that's the only good thing about this fiasco. I will NEVER purchase a Samsung fridge again. They truly are garbage. Heed all the Samsung bad reviews! Mad

Oh I forgot to add that my 15-year old Frigidaire side-by-side is in the garage for the past 2 years and working great. Too bad it's ugly or else I'd put it back in the kitchen.
