Everything about the tolls is a scam. They were originally supposed to end once the bridges were paid for, but the folks in charge decided they didn't want to stop the money flow so now they use the toll system as a jobs initiative (employing lots of worthless administrators and CSRs) and after the government takes its cut for "administering the program" what's left is given to the failing transit agencies so they can pay janitors $200k to sleep on the job.

I would not call this a deal because this is the policy which has been executed in the past 3 years

The discount is only applicable when HOA times are enforced. That means weekends and off peak times are not valid.

And I really hated fasttack. 680 always has issue with scanning my toll tag and will charge me. 880 has no issue. If you have fast track, I recommend check the balance regularly. If the charges are based on license plate number, that means you could be charged even though if you multiple occupants.

So it only works if you are traveling during rush hours in the carpool lane? 5-10am 3-7pm M-F. if you are taking the bay bridge during the weekend then the carpool lane is a bus only lane if I remember correctly and you csn use it.
They call it express lanes now and it's from 5am-8pm, M-F. Free with 3+ passengers.
Clean air vehicles with carpool stickers will get discount even you travel alone (charge varies on each express lanes), Bay bridge still have carpool lanes,

Sigh.. those who can afford buying 50k cars get all the tax rebates and discounted tolls. God bless America
Yep, high earners get tax credits. While the rest of us don't and pay more for the same exact car. What else in this world is there that if you make more money you pay more?
System is broken and after about 30% EV to ICE it will still unless it becomes fair.

Regular car do not get discount, but express lane is free if you have 3 passengers.
Yes but I have a clean air vehicle with a current sticker and a selectable transponder and I've been getting 50% off for months now.

I have the same problem with 680. No issue with 580 or 880. Called Fastrak and was asked whether the tag was at the right place. It was and worked on other freeways.

Bay Area software engineers are getting 400k easily. They can afford any cars.
It's true and that's why fastrak is so great. We can make sure those people getting paid 400k (and people willing to just drive in there lane because it's impossible for cops to catch them) can get to work fast while everyone else has to wait in artificially created traffic. Fastrak is a tax on poor people and people who follow rules.

I can't count the number of times the transponder fails to be read and it ends up billing against your license plate. When this happens it will always bill you for the cost of 1 person. Making it worse there is like a 1 week delay for those charges to reach your account so by the time you are aware you've reached over hundreds of dollars in charges which are hard to get reversed. Scam.
I drove my motorcycle in the carpool lane last month. Still charge me full. I wonder if i should have taken out my pass from my bag

Remember when they had an earthquake and had to retrofit all the bridges and rebuild the Bay Bridge? It cost $1 billion.

Why does the post even exist? As if this is a deal? Or promotion?

Isn't this the way it has been all along? For express lanes that have the multi selection transponders?

I am wondering the same thing, how did this get promoted to FP? I'm 99% sure SD is not getting any referral bonus on this. I saw it upvoted as a popular deal but dismissed it as old news.

I just file a dispute on the website when this happens and they refund it with an email of try to make your transponder more out in the open. We just need to dispute within 30 days of the charge, which means I need to check every few weeks. You have your transponder set to 3+, as their website says to for motorcycles, correct?

Carpool Lanes

Qualified carpool vehicles that use a designated carpool lane will pay a reduced-price toll of $3.50 during carpool hours, 5:00 am to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The following vehicles qualify to use the carpool lane:

Motorcycles
Golden Gate gets $2 discount for motorcycles, but the CAV sticker that everyone is talking about in this deal doesn't get a discount!

To add something meaningful to this FP deal, I will also link the 3 wheel motorcycle I bought to use the express lanes for free and get 50% off bridge tolls. In 2015, I bought a brand new 2015 Nissan Leaf for $12k after rebates + $3k sales tax, but I sold it in 2018 for $8k when the white sticker was expiring in January 2019.

Posted the motorcycle in a separate deal

Also, as a PSA, don't buy an EV just for the CAV sticker. Currently all EVs issued a decal in Jan 2022 to Dec 2023 expire in Sept 2025

https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/...icle-decal

Please note that the CAV decal program will end, and any remaining valid decals will expire on September 30, 2025.

So is the FasTrak CAV toll tag a selectable 1, 2, 3+ transponder?
