I can't believe they still only give you 8gb of storage. And it's basically gone after 4 app installs 🤦 ♂️

I have to say I tried a Roku and the user experience is night and day better. The biggest issue is password management and Roku has it right with doing it once on one device and the rest of them will remember. If you ever have to change your Amazon password be prepared for the biggest nightmare ever to redo wifi and password on every single Amazon device in your house.
problem with roku is it is a closed system... Android is hackable.

Roku does Vudu, FS does not.

No, not me. Just use one of the wireless mice and keyboards I already own. Better than any remote! 😃
Does your mouse and keyboard do voice recognition? I can just say: "Play x show on Amazon/Netflix/YouTube/etc" into the Amazon remote and it brings me right to that show on that platform. 😉

Can you mirror your phone onto the screen? I don't think you were able to do this a few years ago but I can with my Chromecast. Did they enable that yet?

One question... can this do Dolby True HD / DTS-X? Can it pass lossless audio as a Plex client? Already have a Shield in the living room but was wondering if this latest model has that capability as a cheaper alternative for the bedroom. T.I.A!

These things are unintuitive, buggy, dumb remote design. Love being told my app needs to be updated while using it. I'm waiting for Chromecast to drop a new model.

According to the specs it does support TrueHD passthrough. Unclear if it supports all DTS profiles (MA/X) and which apps it actually works in but might be worth a shot.

Saw the specs but it honestly feels like they just copied and pasted from the fire cube lol. Hoping can get confirmation from someone in real world use.

I have a bunch of fire sticks sitting in a drawer after my new tv came with Roku. It's so much better it's not even close. Switched everything over.
I agree, Roku is much better. However I still use my fire stick for a couple of capabilities and apps that the Roku doesn't have, but everything else is on the Roku.

While that was true at one point, it has not been the case for years. Vudu works fine on FireTV.

You know you can add an external thumb drive for as much memory as you want, right? I do that for apps and for downloaded movies and tv content to move to my media server.

You jut buy a cable off amazon for like $4 that plugs betwen the power supply and the power port that gives you a USB port. add a multi USB and you can use a real keyboard and mouse as well.
Most apps do not support being moved to the external drive, so this ends up not being as useful as you think. I have an external drive and constantly run into free space issues on my original 8GB Max (less than 5GB is actually usable for apps without warnings) because only a handful of my apps can be moved to external. I just upgraded to the new 16GB Max. 8GB just isn't enough.

No, they do not, nor would I want them to. But my microphone and the operating system does 😁! Alexa and the like can be installed into any OS that I'm aware of, if that's your cup of joe it's easy enough get. For obvious reasons though, I would never allow a device to listen to me. If I ever were to use such a thing I would only do so if it could be momentarily active and 100% manual.

do these let you plug in a usb and play movies from a hard drive?
You can do this, You need to use FAT32 when you format the external storage drive, so there is the limitation of 4 gig max file sizes. Apparently NTFS drives are not recognized by this device.

You just need to grab an OTG cable. This video gives a good overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbFGvCf9dnI
