SBC market space. These will get more competitive now that Raspberry Pi's are back in mass production.

The CPU and Gigabit Ethermet LAN are deal breakers. For the same price, get an Intel NUC with far better CPU and expansibility.

Too expensive still. They're cool just for the smaller form factor but honestly not worth $150 folks. Get a mini PC as other guy suggested for same price that will run circles around this.

A quick search on Amazon shows a few Beelink / other misc. brands that hit that price point and have more RAM & included storage than this. (Just search 'N100 mini pc' and poke around the results). A few weeks ago there was a barebones N100 MSI Cubi on Newegg for ~$120 & N200 variant for ~$150 (if you are looking for a major / reputable brand).

Anything with a much more recent N100 processor will most likely outperform this N3450 (for the 8GB ram model), while being at the same 6W TDP and (officially) supporting up to double the RAM.

Unless you need that funky external PCIe connector and that form factor, I certainly would need to agree with the others on recommending avoiding this. And if you do need that additional PCIe... you'd probably be better off grabbing a full sized board in that case (like the ASRock N100M / ASRock N100DC-ITX that both include an embedded N100 for $130) and a building a SFF PC yourself (granted the cost of storage/RAM/case/PSU will put you over the $150 price point).

I guess the novelty here is the PCIe on a low power SBC if you have a use case for that

The space is getting a little crowded. The upcoming Raspberry Pi 5 has a PCIe header and the Pi 4 compute modules has a PCIe lane as well.

Every time one of these gets posted, people come out of the woodwork talking about cheaper SFF PCs that you can get on eBay or Amazon or whatever, and they're entirely missing the point of this board and others like it. It's supposed to be a VERY low power computing platform that you can load a handful of docker containers onto. Half of the point here is the low power consumption, NOT the price to performance ratio.

Also, the Zimaboard specifically has a dual NIC, which is the other half of the point. It's for running stuff like a router/firewall. If you can't think of a use case, this board is not for you. Please move along, thank you.

6W TDP on just the chip, thats not that low power and it doesnt include everything else on the board. A RPi running at full tilt is lower power and faster too.

This is a niche device for if you need both x86 and dual NICs. (are they even Intel NICs?)
So pfSense is pretty much the main use case, and even then, the cpu is EOL'ed and its generally poor practice to run any security device on an EOL'ed chip.

EDIT: it was EOLed this year, not next year

This chip came out in 2016, with all the security and efficiency issues that implies.

New Raspberry Pi is gonna be 5V 5A (25W), which is not a common power profile. Lenovo SFF from 5 years ago runs 20V 2A (40W), same price when you calculate all the accessories, and has more performance. The Rasperry Pi2 and zero are still viable as they can still run 5V 1A (5W).
