By then you're looking at $50 and no sub I'd go for the Klipsch Promedia set for $50 when on sale. It'd be vastly superior to these speakers.

I need to replace gen 1 dot my son is using in his room. Main usage is drop in to call him out from room and he likes to ask questions and i am also planning use smart light strips that can be controlled by alexa. Should I get dot or pop is enough?

We wound up going with the 5" Echo Show for my sons when it's on sale, for the same reason but the Show is also an alarm clock and can display answers to question the may ask it. (think math and spelling)

Thanks! I already have an 8-inch show in my kitchen and a 5-inch one in my master bedroom for the alarm and door bell feed. Pop price is very attractive, but I was not sure it would support all my requirements for my son's room use case.

Random thing recently noticed:

We have a single 5th gen Dot and I recently discovered that the past few times our internet was out it was the only one that would still turn things on and off with our Kasa ecosystem. We have a 2nd gen Show and four other 4th Gen dots. The rest just tell me there is and internet issue and to power cycle my router.

I think Pop would work as well as the current Dot in your use case. Biggest difference would likely be shape. Some reviewers say Dots sound better than Pops, others say the reverse. In my experience, the Pop can get a tad louder and sounds slightly better than our 3rd gen Dots.

Yeah I believe they got rid of them in the 5th gen. If you want/need aux woot has a 4th gen deal going for 19 bucks on another slickdeal thread

There is a 1 sec lag to start playing any audio. I'm using it now but for office setup it's okay for now.
