By then you're looking at $50 and no sub I'd go for the Klipsch Promedia set for $50 when on sale. It'd be vastly superior to these speakers.

Thanks! I already have an 8-inch show in my kitchen and a 5-inch one in my master bedroom for the alarm and door bell feed. Pop price is very attractive, but I was not sure it would support all my requirements for my son's room use case.
Does the show work for video calls at two different households?

No video call if no screen but drop in works fine.

I think Pop would work as well as the current Dot in your use case. Biggest difference would likely be shape. Some reviewers say Dots sound better than Pops, others say the reverse. In my experience, the Pop can get a tad louder and sounds slightly better than our 3rd gen Dots.
Thanks but i already went in with dot cuz my son like the shape lol

Wish they had this deal for the one with the clock. I guess that's why these are basically on clearance.

I bet 90% use case for these is as traditional clock radio replacement, so I think it's weird to have a non clock version.

Feels very much like they tested two almost identical products in the market, learned from it, and for next gen of this will likely only have one with clock option.

Great question. If I could do this with the Dot with clock/philips hue bulb bundle, I could get a 'clock' Dot for $22

Yeah I have a couple "clockless" Dots but they sort of don't make sense to me without a clock display. I have been buying the Dots with clocks for our bedrooms, and they add voice control to the ceiling fans and light kits in those rooms through Caseta smart switches.

I mean, my dots are only used for music and asking the weather/traffic. I have clocks on enough devices that I don't need more.

Check out the creative pebble. Very impressive given its compactness

Random thing recently noticed:

We have a single 5th gen Dot and I recently discovered that the past few times our internet was out it was the only one that would still turn things on and off with our Kasa ecosystem. We have a 2nd gen Show and four other 4th Gen dots. The rest just tell me there is and internet issue and to power cycle my router.
I know the Kasas remember a schedule and during a network outage will still turn off/on as scheduled.

In terms of the Internet being out and Alexa controlling kasa devices I'm not sure how this would be possible since the "skill" integration between Alexa and tp-link would need to be initiated via the Internet. Are you sure this controlled your devices during an outage?

Absolutely sure. It was nice to realize.

Interesting, really curious how this works, must work over local LAN somehow, thanks for sharing.
