Google has been dropping the ball supporting their ecosystem. It seems that my Google Homes keep getting worse every day. The devices have become slow to respond and often have issues doing something as simple as turning off a light. Is Google even trying anymore?

I have a few of these and am very happy with them as long as you calibrate your expectations. It is not a tablet (or even close), but it does do some things well:
- Play music on command and works really well if you have YouTube Music sub
- Will play the news or latest podcast
- My favorite feature: if you use google photos it will curate your pictures and show you a slideshow history of your pictures. Not sure how it works, but does an incredible job of picking them and bringing back awesome memories. I've used Google Photos for years, so lots of great content. It really is incredible.

They do get cheaper on occasion, but this is a great price and although it's far from perfect, still a solid product.

FWIW I like ours and it works great. Way better than Alexa.

Same price at Home Depot, Target, and Walmart:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Googl.../316050817
https://www.target.com/p/google-n...A-80209774
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Google...SellerId=0

Does anyone think it'll be significantly cheaper on Black Friday? Maybe $40-50? Looks like it's in the holiday return period at Target and Walmart already though, so if it's cheaper at either retailer, you can rebuy and return.

Worth $40, super slow unresponsive touch screen, very low quality audio and same complaints as the nest audio thread, Google assistant is basically useless at this point.
Only Google would be dense enough to sit on something that performances as well as Bard in the Generative AI space and not be racing towards integrating it into Google Home Assistant.

DO NOT BUY, Google seems to stop or slow down their support/development of this product. Mine that bought a year ago, stops working and screen distorted 90%. Threw it away, JUNK

My big complaint about this over a nest with no screen is that this will put results on the screen and not tell you the results audibly. For example if I ask my nest audio when Costco closes it tells me out loud. If I ask this thing it tells me "the results are on the screen". I don't want to have to go look at the screen every time I want a simple answer. I really don't like this thing over a displayless nest

LOL this should be $30 by now. It's old, doesn't have camera, it restarts on its own, and is slow. It's not worth $59. The only reason I have it is because I have Nest Hello doorbell and this allows you to have live stream at all times or use as a photo frame displaying Google photos.

Replaced gen 1 with this one because it was on sale. It is completely identical to first one. Slow and buggy. It can't even be used by picture frame without issue. Picture would freeze and stay for hours.

Somehow the 2nd gen seems less dependable as a picture frame, but the bluetooth speakers functionality seems stable.

Sure seems that Google is slowly exiting the smart speaker/display space. Will Google still be supporting this thing a year from now? Despite their financial losses with these products, I declare Amazon the winner.

I should consider myself lucky, my gen1 hub works fine. Daily music, home automation, voice commands, and have rebooted it maybe once or twice in 4 years.

very lucky, mine reboots randomly like every hour, and screen goes out often and come back on randomly. It just a digital clock for me now.
