I bought the 2tb one with heatsink. The heatsink doesn't even fit the drive. It can not clip together all the way unless I want to squash it so much I risk damaging the drive. Total garbage.

I don't think you understand why it doesn't fit. You slide in the drive, then clip on the heatsink. The heatsink clips are too low and do not engage all the way. There are even reviews mentioning this and saying it fell off after installed in the computer (because the clips don't engage).

The drive is fine, but don't purchase thinking you are going to use that heatsink.

I can't comment on their drives but they are far from budget brand for some of their RAM lines especially their b rank samsung ram.

Also, all the major players in ssd have budget and enthusiast drives, you have to look at the specifics. E.g. samsung has top of the line drives and bottom of the barrel drives.

I think what it causes this misunderstanding is people who have brand loyalty tendencies and/or follow guides from a content creator or website that tells them "I only trust x brand to mfg nvme drives",

Eventually, when you buy enough of any given component, from enough brands, you'll see every mfg fail at least once. I've been building pc's since the late 90's and have seen every single brand fail under ideal conditions.

This is without a set timeframe, and outside of bad batches. It just happens. These days, if anything buying "budget" parts is a safer gamble if you're trying to come in at a specific price solely because mfg tolerances are so tight across the spectrum these days any two identical products from different companies are nearly indistinguishable.

The only time I'll break this rule of thumb is where an excellent (ie above average) warranty is offered from the factory.

I just need a not fancy 1TB SSD drive to act as my cache redundancy for NAS. Does need to be high performance or anything but do want it to solidly built (I remember years back there were bad storage format for certain ssds?)
Is this 1TB a good one to get?

What?

This is true for every solid state drive.

You should always backup your data to mechanical drives, tape, and/or cloud storage, because the failure rates of flash memory are unpredictable and nearly impossible to recover.

You aren't exempting yourself from this by spending more on a "name brand" drive.

All of consumer grade SSDs are less reliable than Datacenter SSDs. Whether Teamgroup or Samsung is more reliable is honestly a matter of luck or at the margin, so it's best to go for the cheapest option.

Unless you can perceive a 1ms difference, the speed is pretty much the same for all of them.

Is this 1TB a good one to get?
You want SLC, MLC or TLC chips, not QLC.

Something like a used PM983 or SM863a works really well for a cache drive as they can support more TBW (terabytes written) than any consumer drive. You could literally read and write constantly for years and they are rated to work.
