X series generally has higher power output across more channels - rough estimate about 60% stated power across all channels driven vs S series which has power figures stated only on 2 channels driven other channels are lower priority.
X series also supports IMAX Enhanced and Auro3D formats w/ upmixing if you want to play around w/ that some folks argue that Auro3D upmixing mode sounds better than Atmos upmix. *Also note you can use Atmos upmixer on your S760H if you wish to upmix stereo content to Atmos outside of apple spatial streaming services.
S series is designed for small home living rooms while X series is like entry level to more serious home theater.

looks like those "Front page" SD advertisements were not such a good deal after all.
There seems to be enough value to justify that extra $100:

EDIT: I do have an 8K TV, just want to make sure I pick up the right receiver so I could pass a true 8K signal from my PC. Can anyone confirm?
Here is comparison that should help.

I kind of wish I needed a new receiver, but can't justify upgrading my 960H quite yet

Main differentiators i see are more wattage for speakers, atmos music (which i believe only applies to Apple Music which I don't currently subscribe to), and detachable power cable lol
And they won't start shipping until Oct 9th as they are on vacation. Just a heads up.

The other thing that often happens is this vendor has the best prices!
Some people have an agenda against them but never provide a better price option.
Take for instance the RZ50.
The new price is actually $1599.
The often sale price has been $1299.
The low price that has popped up was $1k.
