This looks like a poor-quality bar but that doesn't mean it's useless at this price.

This is probably fine if you don't use it for ground lifts (too much weight and impact) or as a secondary/backup bar.

Edit: I've been lifting heavy for decades and used many bars.

The issue with bars like these isn't safety it's longevity. These bars flake metal chips and have a cheap plastic core connecting the ends to the bar that will break under heavy use. You're not going to get injured when the plastic breaks, the weight wobbles, and the bar becomes mostly useless.

A more expensive bar will last forever with heavy personal use but cost nearly 10x as much. These are good for a couple of years under heavy use and about five with regular use. Do the math for yourself.

I don't need this deal personally but I have used them in the past and they served their purpose.

I've had two of this exact barbell. After a few months, the chrome will start to flake off the sleeves.

My experience has been completely different than what I'm reading here. I got this bar and the BalanceFrom bumper plate set about 5 months ago. I lift every other day and do heavy compound exercises. Deadlift (365 lbs), squat (285 lbs), and bench (225 lbs).

Not bragging but those are good numbers that the majority of people won't achieve and won't put the bar through that kind of abuse.

I've had 0 issues with the bar. No metal shavings at all or concerns over weight capacity. Someone said the bar doesn't come with bearings/bushings. That's completely wrong, I don't think any Olympic bar that spins is possible to not come with bushings or bearings because then it wouldn't spin which means it's not an Olympic bar. This bar comes with copper bushings.

I don't do snatch or clean and press/jerk which would put a lot more strain on the bar from dropping it at standing height. I also don't use cast iron plates, so maybe my bumper plates I have don't scratch the sleeve as much. All I know is this has been a fine bar for me after using it for 5 months.

Wonder if it'll shave off metal every time you put a weight on

I also have one of these and for light use, it works fine. I don't lift every day as it's not my primary focus. For my purposes it was a good purchase.

Not all bars are created equal. A good bar is tested for tensile strength, not max weight. It is imperative to get a quality bar for safety.

Helpful feedback from reviews: This bar has no bushings or bearings in the sleeves. Just metal on metal. "700 lb" advertised limit is inaccurate as well, seems to bend above ~300lb.

Benching this bar for over 4 years. I'm not maxing over 700lbs yet. But that's why you have a spotter if you go heavy. For a home gym this will do. Slick deal at this price for casual moderate use with no prob for me.

If you're even thinking about putting 300lbs on a bar, I would recommend to step up to the Cap, which seems like a decent deal for $80.

Mine has also started flaking off and now I get painful metal splinters whenever I lift.
