The elite has a timer that is programmable for the lighting. With the regular versions you have to plug the unit in at the exact time you want the light to turn on.

Not that great of a price currently but they have sales every so often where I've seen it in the $15-ish range

It also has a vacation mode that reduces the time when lights are on so theoretically should use less water
I like the shape best. The slim version takes less space. Also, it is more automated than the others and easier to maintain. And I don't know why but in my experience the plants seem to be healthier. Maybe because they are in a row and less bunched up.
