There are four ways you can be eligible to become a member at Truliant:

Live, work, worship or attend school in a county near one of our branches
Work for one of our business partners
Have an immediate family or household member who is currently a member of Truliant

But credit unions are insured up to the same dollar limits as banks by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) which is basically identical to FDIC insurance and backed by the full faith and credit of the US government.

There is no risk of loss putting money up to the $250k insured limit in a credit union.

It's nice to see CD deals where the yields are actually above T-Bill yields. This one is so good that even with state income tax considerations, you're still better off with the CD than the T-Bill. The only thing you're sacrificing with the CD is liquidity.

I wonder if most of you buy this from a Roth IRA account. lately, I heard about the backdoor option and thought it would be a wiser decision to buy using the Roth. Appreciate comments/ thoughts from someone familiar in this area

It is a federal credit union, but not as in federal government. If you live in GA, NC, VA, or NC you can take advantage of offer.

Yes you can enroll. For those who got denied by Chex, call the credit union. In my case my drivers licence had a light glare on it and Chex rejected. I had to re-do the app and it is now approved.

Anyone know if they all the interest to be withdrawn each month without penalty? Also, if the entire amount if funds need to be put in to the certificate at one time or if you can split it in multiple times. Lastly, how long do you have to deposit the funds once opened?

It sounds like they just want to confirm you aren't somebody else using your SS # (to avoid income tax reporting, presumably). It could be a Chex history (which is based on SS #) with an abnormally high number of new accounts in a relatively short time period that leads them to wonder. Or a fraud alert on your credit report.

The 'federal' in "federal credit union", like that in "federal savings bank", just indicates that their charter is from the federal government rather than one of the states. Generally has nothing to do with membership eligibility criteria.

The income from a T-bill happens all at once when the bill matures. You get the principle back plus the interest. Whatever tax year for the owner that occurs in dictates when tax will be due on that interest income.
