Never had a chance to audition the R series. How are the 3s or 5s, soundstage, clarity, etc? Do they tend to be bright?

the R-series (All models) would be described as neutral, definitely not bright.

Those were very hit or miss since a lot of them were demo units / floor models. I know several people ended up getting ones very banged up and damaged from Bestbuy.

They are pretty similar, if you found them bright these won't really change that.

FYI if this is a blind buy for someone.
Might want to try to audition them 1st, their sound is not for everyone so you may not prefer them.

Snagged an Open Box excellent pair of R7s for $1100. Hadn't even been removed from the original wrapping.

Thanks, supermanrob. I'm familiar with the KEF sound and generally like it but that was before the time of the Uni-Q driver. You're right. I should give them a listen first.

The 3,5,7,11 series all went half off their retail price in May when the "Meta" versions of these were released. I snagged a set 5's then. I'm not sure why they are advertising them five months later, I thought they had sold through their stock of them. IIRC the 3's were $1k then. I paid $1650 for my 5's which was half of retail.
