The price seesaw with Tesla continues. Wow!
Which is a good thing. They adjust price to market demand.

Just look at the ICE cars. I visited over a dozen dealerships from Toyota to Benz and everyone stick to MSRP. 1 has a 5k "warranty package" tag to the sticker. The Lexus and BMW sales said they may able to take 1500 to 2500 of a 65-70k sticker price.

Worst deal is Kia, Hyundai and Genesis. They simply don't give a F. There is no one servicing you.

I saw this on front page and knew exactly what this thread would look like lol. fanboys and haters all coming out. Regardless of how you feel about the cars, it's clear Tesla is feeling competitive heat

From whom?

This is a US price cut-- where Tesla is outselling the next 19 car brands combined in EVs for the first half of 2023:
https://insideevs.com/news/689106...s-h1-2023/

Tesla is lowering prices because they can and because it's LITERALLY THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE COMPANY to accelerate the transition to sustainable transport.

https://www.tesla.com/blog/secret...you-and-me

That's Teslas master plan.
Published in 2006.
6 years before Model S went on sale. 11 years before Model 3 went on sale.

It has 4 steps:

Build sports car (this was the roadster)
Use that money to build an affordable car (this was the S/X)
Use that money to build an even more affordable car (this is the 3/Y)
While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options (this is solar and storage)

And that's exactly what they've executed against.

Tesla keeps getting more efficient at building cars, and they keep lowering prices to increase the # who can afford them as a result- all in direct service to the mission statement and plan published many many years ago.

Yet people keep acting surprised or pretending they're doing it over some imaginary "competition" that objectively does not exist (especially in the US market)

There was a Tesla in front of me at Taco Bell tonight. I was surprised at how high it was off the ground compared to my Lexus. It was the Model Y. I cannot get over how ugly Tesla car interiors are.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some ppl like ikea furniture some antiques. Just like I would not comment on how beautiful your food choices are, because it is personal.

How were you able to see the interior from your lowered Lexus with the Tesla towering over you?

The AWD and range increase makes this a decently easy choice now, frankly these cars last forever, teslas ability to make the car an appliance means youll likely keep it in your family for years upon years, youll either give it to your parents, sister, kid, etc after 8 years. $4500 over 8 years is only extra $562. Its almost "regret insurance" at that point, if every year you get into a situation where you wish you had awd and slightly more range than youll kick yourself for not having gotten this. (I also think the LR has subwoofers and rwd doesnt... but someone would have to confirm that for me)
last forever?

Have family so back seat comfort is important. I sat in a Y's back bench seat and noticed seat cushion is very short so no real thigh support. Also it does not recline so it seems very upright.

Fake news. Model Y back seats recline a significant amount actually.

People asking if this is a good deal just ask yourself why tesla keeps lowering their prices when toyota doesnt
Have you looked at Toyota sales figures for EV's? Do you understand their horizon for new releases? I think it's you who needs to dig a little deeper into the numbers.

That's a complaint of the model 3 too. It looks like the new Highland model 3 refresh may resolve this. Looking forward to how it compares once the masses get their hands on them.

Not double. A little more. Unless you're the kind that usually goes for whatever comes your way without shopping for a good deal
I think it is more than a "little" Like 45% more on average.

The high cost of a Tesla doesn't stop at its price tag. Insurance for a Tesla tends to be significantly more expensive than that of other popular vehicles, despite its high safety ratings.

Still, rates can vary drastically, even among different Tesla models. Below are the median annual insurance rates by Tesla model, ranked from cheapest to most expensive:

Model 3 ($2,574).

Model Y ($2,905).

Model S ($3,785).

Model X ($3,861).

Tesla car insurance for a Model 3 costs a median of $2,574 per year, or about $215 a month, our analysis shows. That's nearly 45% higher than the national median cost of car insurance.

Actually, we do have ideas on how long these cars will last. Battery technology is evolving and if you gas heads can't understand that, that is fine. It isn't the job of others to make you do your research. I love gas powered cars, and I love my subies. EV's have their pros and cons just like a gas powered vehicle. But after owning an EV myself, they are by far a much better and more comfortable ride to me personally. Yeah you lose some "soul" that you got from gas powered cars. But I'm sure people said the same thing about when we went from horse and buggy to gas powered cars.

I happen to have a bunch of boomer friends. The smart and educated love EVs. The others...simply just don't get them.
This is very well said.
I don't own a Tesla but bought a Leaf last year. After driving an EV I hate to drive my gas car. I mean absolutely hate it... Can't even describe. But I'd still keep owning a gas vehicle for holiday drives to other cities, destinations.

EV is fantastic for City driving. I also have solar panels installed, so all my 15k miles I put in on my EV is less than a year have been free. I can never imagine free gas, and driving 15k miles in the city in my gas car would have cost me a fortune

I saw the price cut on Twitter (X).
Makes me wonder why Tesla doesn't just advertise more if they want to sell more. Cutting price will only anger the current owners who paid $20k higher about 1 year ago. Offering a lower interest rate would be better than slashing price by 2 to 4%.
I mean, all those who got fleeced the last few years crying about lower prices now… How do you think anyone buying a house right now is gonna feel in a couple years lol? No one out a gun to your head to buy an expensive battery-powered vehicle during a pandemic lol.

For those with noise complaints would it make sense for a stereo shop to remove all the interior carpet and use fatmat/ dynamat for sound deadening? Surely it will cost 2500$ to do the entire car but would it be worth it?
Most noise are from wind and not road, at least for my 2022 Model Y.
