Check my post about the Nissan Leaf. 90+% of the people do city driving and drive less than 100 miles per day. An EV with charging overnight at home should serve their purpose perfectly well. At 10 cents to 15 cents a Kwh in most states, it's a no brainer to get an EV, especially if you drive 50 to 60 miles every day.

But getting a Tesla for that is an overkill. Get a Bolt or a Leaf or the new VW EV. Get a cheap EV for your driving needs and get a nice gas car as your status symbol.
I'm on that boat, driving 60 city miles per day. Other than the 3 cars you mentioned, any other suggestions? Should I consider used ones as well? TIA

Tempted to get a Tesla but feel bad what other ev manufactures would be going through as they have to compete with Tesla as it's becoming more and more affordable
Actually ever other EV manufacturer is reporting growing sales of their models. MachE just recorded highest month and Q ever. Same for Rivian, same for Hyundai.
Tesla is going to drop prices again this Q. They have 85,000 units in unsold inventory and their entire narrative is increasing deliveries. Unsold was growing for 4 Qs then last Q, even after 6 price cuts, they sold 5k of them (90k went down to 85k). They *have* to move that metal, and they will cut prices again in order to do so.

Note everyone. My Model Y loses battery 10% a night with sentry mode on. That's almost 3-5 dollars a night (supercharge). If you don't have a garage, this is not a car to get.

I wonder if I should trade in my model 3 for model y. I hate all the interior noise from model 3.
The MY is not very different. We have a 2023 MY and we can feel all the road noise in the cabin.

New model Y rear wheel drive is under 44K hence qualifies for NJ state Tax credit of 4K.
If you were looking for Model 3 RWD its good time to buy Model Y for extra $6k you get big and better EV.

I thought the fed discount is a form of a tax credit. so is that out of pocket price what you pay, or have to pay $7500 more?
seriously considering a M3 with these discounts

They're not as bad as folks make it out to be. Also being an EV, noise issues are amplified
Just do a through walk through of the vehicle once delivered. Apparently once you go tesla, you stay with teslas. I'm tempted to get into one as well with all the glowing praises from numerous friends and family
I think it's luck of the draw with the build quality. Two people I know got Model Ys. One loves theirs and the other one is always in the shop getting something fixed

My next car will probably be electric but no Tesla for me. They are everywhere in the DC area and I want something more special.

I just got a model 3 last month. I'd read of the noise complaints, but honestly, my wife and I are impressed with it being quiet.
Exact same experience. M3P from Feb and surprised how quite it is. Even swapped my OEM Turb wheels for aftermarket staggered and its still very quiet. I am wondering if maybe the previous owner has older model, issue with a window or seal lose, or possible something else lose in the car. I wish there was an option to add sound while accelerating though. My friend has BMW i4 and they integrated woosh sounds from Hans Zimmer is genius.
I almost think sometimes that the M3P is worthy of that "pooof" sound when flooring it. Similar to when superman is flying in man of steel, just plain sick!

Get it down to $20-25k and maybe the masses will buy them. I couldn't afford a car payment for a $43k car if I wanted to...would probably cost as much as my rent.

The more cars are electronic and less mechanical, the less durable they will be compared to their mechanical counterparts (at least Toyota). Capacitors, power supplies and ssd memory has limited lifespan. They are making future cars far more disposable than than cars of the past. Even with gas savings, lifetime cost of ownership is questionable in value compared to a mechanical versioned Toyota. Also with climate change and record heat waves, regions with long duration heat and humidity will no doubt degrade these electronic cars and their batteries far more than what you think. These cars may have the best lifespan in California with it's temperate weather, but in all other regions, expect it to be worse.
Mechanical components are more prone to failure, in particular when exposed to temp extremes. In some military settings you're completely prohibited from using mechanical parts in designs for this reason, resulting in electronics being cooled entirely by convection currents and huge heatsinks rather than fans.

Hybrid is the worst. You get both a crappy engine AND a crappy electric powerplant. You get all the negatives of both without any really good example of either.
PHEV is where it's at.

I would love to get model 3 or Y, but keep seeing issues on reddit. Battery failure, crazy repair bills, and battery degradation. For insurance, i pay $160/m full coverage for lexus es and bmw m3, I got quoted $250/m for just model 3 alone. I want the FSD but not worth paying extra $ and headache.

Are tesla dealers staffed by lower class, sleazy, aggressive sales types like all other dealerships?

Is the price posted in this deal the price I would see on the sticker ?

I've never owned a Tesla but know many who do. Most of them love it, but will recommend you have a backup car for the amount of times it has to get repaired etc
