Just received mine. Manufacture date was only a couple months ago. You can check yours on the outside of the packaging when examining the serial number. Starting with the 9th character it shows the weeks and year "WWYY."
As mentioned before, be careful with these as some may be 3 - 5 years old. Look at the date on the box. Still worth it, but don't think you'll get the full 10 years out of them.
As do all smoke alarms.

I believe they are the same price, although they don't sell it at the one I usually go to

They also don't sell the battery version in my store. And the reason they give has to do with local building codes. I'm not sure they sell the wired version either.

Majority of Costco stores don't sell them in stores anymore. Bought 2 from Costco a month ago, was shipped from Google instead.

Also these smoke detectors use energizer lithium AA batteries only (no substitutes). Each battery literally costs $3 each and will require 6 batteries each. The wired version uses only 3 batteries.

Man. I have a 4 pack of random ones downstairs I bought from Costco a few months ago. Should I put these up instead? We're in HomeKit / ecobee eco system but I really like the idea of the nest ones.

Agree with this. Many people report the units stop around 5-7 years, which is out of warranty. I think it's BS they won't stand behind the product when they know the sensors have a definite lifespan.

Just be sure you are buying into this ecosystem expecting to shell out for replacements every 5 years.

I've had 2 installed for 8 yrs. One of the best features is the motion detection and pathway lighting- absolutely love it. Oh, yeah and they work well as smart smoke detectors as well, voice alerts, loud as all heck when you need it most.

But yeah. Don't buy ones that are old. Something tells me they'll just stop working. And they integrate with basically nothing. No Samsung SmartThings no HomeKit. Last I checked, even Home Assistant support was very basic.

So you'll be running the nest app. Not a huge deal if you already use it for nest thermostat(s) but google killed nest's ability to play well with others and doesn't appear to be interested in ever bringing it back.

thanks for the great tip. and this is how we read manufacture date without opening the box:https://reddit.com/r/Nest/s/hrWPoXESHv also here is my data point: i have ordered twice in the past year and all 4 have been manufactured less than half a year ago before my purchase date
