The pods dont seem reasonably priced at $45 for 8.
You can make coffee on the stove with a single pot. And yet my grandparents still had a coffee maker.
People can't stop consuming. If you build it, they will buy. Then they can show it off on social media and to their friends - mission accomplished.

For folks that own this - what does the quality of drinks compare to? Any widely available premixed brands that you think this comes close to?

Also, are there pods that you strongly recommend/don't recommend?
On average they compare to the some of the higher price point rtd cocktails on the market think cutwater tier. We love the aviation, apple pie, amaretto sour and any of the margherita varieties that have available.

When I first saw this I rolled my eyes. But after reading reviews I can see how this can be helpful. Especially if you are someone that throws parties with people that drink different types of drinks. Keeps the host from being stuck behind the bar instead of enjoying the party I guess.
Now you have to show your guests how to use it instead of just leaving some bottles/mixers on the counter.

Heaven forbid you make cocktails for your friends mister fancy pants
It's more like - do I mingle with my friends or do I stand behind the bar all night making drinks. Not everyone drinks. When I'm shaking cocktails, I'm there all night. There's more to an event than just tending bar.

If you can read, turn your wrist and count to three you are halfway to being a bartender.

This seems like something that you'd find at an airport restaurant so the prep cook can make a 'whisky sour' at 8:30AM while he / she is also counting the overnight till, running the register, busing tables, and acting as host/ess.

But whatever.....

Perfect for airport lounges as well. While having a real live bartender is a plus, not having to chase one down, or waiting in line during busy times would suit a lot of folks who just want a quick drink before a flight.

I know, I know...21st century problems.

Yeah the waste I can see being con but I think I'm just numb to having worked for a large home improvement retailer for 16 years and the ridiculous amount of debris I've thrown out. Last week an 18 wheeler side swiped an entire bunk of vinyl fencing and obliterated it, down the garbage shoot it went....
Agreed. Corporations are the worst when it comes to producing waste but they have done a great job saying it's our responsibility.

Precisely, I have a wood stove and typically split 5-6 cords of wood a season with my trusty maul. I don't look down on or wonder why people who use a log splitter when any able bodied individual can do what I do with varying time frames. Look at all of the rtd cocktails that have sprung up the last few years, it's the fastest growing alcohol category but even the best ones still aren't any better then a freshly made diy cocktail.
I'm not looking down on anyone, just questioning the target audience. To me this makes little practical sense being it takes more work and $$$ for a net loss of convenience. I don't see the value, it least in my life. Can't speak for others though.

BTW, what size maul do you use? I don't cut that much firewood but still do a bit. Currently using splitting axe and I been on the fence about buying maul. Would I see extra benefit with a maul vs splitting axe?

this has to be the most retarded thing ive ever seen. it just makes drinks? like you have to hook up bottles and press buttons, when you could just pour that bottle and make own drink? world is getting so lazy lol

ahhh i see it has like kuerig mixers. still so weird. i guess if you dont have a mini bar and dont know how to make drings. idk. lol
It's so you don't have to make drinks the whole bloody time you are hosting a group of friends. Instead pay for the pods and chill in the hot tub. This is more of a plan B.

Currently using a truper 12lb maul but for smaller rounds I've got a 8lb husky that works well. I've got a fiskers splitting axe too but for me I like the extra weight that a maul provides. The looking down wasn't directed at you just a general comment on the posters who don't like the product in general.

You'll spend the entire time playing tech support for people trying to work the bloody machine Wink

Owned the original Bartesian because I like to host and having a silly amount of variety without having to stock a lot of ingredients is a plus. The drinks are reasonably tasty (though a little expensive per unit and as with anything "instant" not as good as if you made one from scratch) and the option to have an Aviation next to a Long Island without having to think about it is fun. That plus the novelty of such a device always made people laugh and branch out from the usual "I'll just have a beer I guess". At this price, if you're in a place where the above is appealing then this is not a bad price. Ultimately mine found its way to a closet and hasn't yet come back out because my kids are a risk factor around such a machine and I wasn't willing to keep purchasing pods.

Further - this design looks SO superior to the original that required you to pour all liquor into specific glass jars that came with it. I would absolutely get this style over the one I have if it had been available at the time.

$46 for 8 pods? So you're paying $6 a drink plus the cost of the bottles. May as well go to a bar during happy hour and look at ladies instead of pulling a George Thorogood. Or ffs, learn how to mix drinks and save money. Can't make a gin and tonic with this bs.

Guess it comes down to the type of party you'd want to host?

Typically if I'm having guests over, I'll choose the drink menu, not them. I'll offer them a beer, a wine, or the ONE cocktail I've decided is on offer that night, or a pre-mixed drink like margaritas. If I do want to host the kind of get-together where the added hospitality of serving people whatever they want is important, then being chained to the bar for the night is a feature, not a bug. Though this machine seems to live between those two options, which is interesting, but not sure how I'd really use it.
