Not only will it turn yellow and crack, it also does not do well with meat. Notice, it's called a "food" grinder, NOT a meat grinder, despite the picture showing meat being ground.

The bad reviews make it sound like it's an easy way to ruin your pricey mixer with rotting meat juices.

It's easy to make gourmet burgers and sausage, grind hard cheeses or even fresh bread crumbs with the KitchenAid® Food Grinder Attachment. The food grinder attaches to the power hub of your KitchenAid® Stand Mixer* and uses the power of the mixer to help you process fresh ingredients with speed and ease. Make gourmet burgers at home, any night of the week, from your favorite cut of meat, from turkey to beef, or even bison, and boost the favorite with fresh garlic, onions, mushrooms and more. *sold separately.

This is interesting information and I have been using mine for over 15 years to grind beef and lamb and it hasn't yellowed or cracked. I also use the food mill and it also has not cracked or yellowed.
I bought one of these about a year ago as a refurb directly from KitchenAid and paid $27.00. I've only used it once for making homemade Italian sausage from a Boston butt, but I'm very happy with it so far.
I didn't have the money to buy the metal version, and I was worried this would be money wasted, but after using it successfully, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not having the heavy duty version.
Don't buy this, buy the aluminum one instead. This will turn yellow and crack eventually.
Second. The plastic attachments break over time. Plus, when grinding meat, you are actually supposed to chill/freeze the grinder to prevent the fat from gumming things up. Plastic does not freeze like metal, so your grinding window is pretty short.
I have had mine for a couple years but don't use it all that often so I'm not surprised I haven't seen these issues. But It's does grind conch for fritters perfectly
Had this for 7 years, only ground meat in it - never had an issue. Works great. Sure, the metal one is better, but if you take good care of the plastic one you won't have any issues.

I have one of these. It has served me faithfully for 14, almost 15 years. But yes, it has now cracked. If I were to do it again, I would have bought the metal one. I didn't buy that one because I didn't realize it existed when I got this one.
