I am in for one. This is the same deal as the one on microcenter for $100 more, but brand new. However, I don't live near a Microcenter and my last computer broke. If I could've gone to a Microcenter, I would have for that deal.

The other option was the current refurbished deal on Woot for $1399 for 1TB SSD, but 16gb ram and 10 core CPU/ 16 core GPU.

This one, as post mentions, is 512gb SSD, 32gb ram, 8 core CPU/14 core GPU.

The space is not as much of an issue - I can use iCloud, or an external SSD.

I believe that the extra 16gb of RAM is more important than the loss of 2 core CPU/2 core GPU.

Despite being $100 more, and for a brand new device, I think this edges out the other deal on Woot for the $1399 deal.
People who keep saying this is a 2021 laptop and harp on the price don't understand laptops.

The M1 chip used in these laptops were years ahead of what was released at the time to the point that non Apple silicon laptop companies did not want to send out review models to be compared with the original m1 release.

So despite being 2021 model laptops, they hold up well even when compared to laptops this year. Not to mention similar priced laptops still often lack the cooling, efficiency, and build quality of the MacBook pros.

So ignore anyone trying to shit on this 2021 MacBook pros. They are very good laptops still and well worth the current price.
Where have you seen a 32gb m1 pro, brand new, at this price? Source?

At this price I have only seen this on shady secondary dealers in "used" or "good" condition. the microcenter deal was the best deal on these at $1399, and that was for refurbished. these are brand new.

where on earth are you pulling this from?

The fact it's not mentioned means it's new.
Refurbished are the ones that need to be mentioned in the title.

My bad! I just assumed looking on slickdeals that almost anything m1 is refurbished or used, since i haven't seen discounts on new ones that often.

Thanks OP. Been waiting for a 32gb Macbook deal. This'll do. Seems like there's not a substantial reason to prefer the m2 when this is so much cheaper.

In my brief research to decide if it I should get m1 or pay extra for m2, it seems like the m1 512GB SSD is substantially faster than the m2 512GB SSD. In number terms at least, not sure if it's actually noticeable. I'll probably regret the 512GB size more than the speed of the drive anyway.

Otherwise performance of m1 and M2 are not that far apart. Someone on Reddit said the speakers are way better on the m1 than the m2 models.

We've been seeing at this price. A deal would be the M2 version at this price. This one should be $1300 max by now. It's a 2021 model and we are almost in 2024.

This is regular price. Not a sale. $1500 is an insane price. Post when it's at $1000. Remember it's a 2021 laptop.

Keyword "were"…….then intel /AMD catched up in 2022. I own a lot of apple products but this is not a good price. It's not worth it at this price. If you enjoy being ripped off go for it but don't let others join as well.
you need a better justification other than speculation of what *you think* a good price is. your recommended price point of $1000 for a 32gb m1 is at the least very, very optimistic and early, but not realistic for what these go for.

i have been waiting for a 32gb deal for 6 months and i probably would've still held out if i had another computer. you wont get this for $1000 any where.

if we want to play make believe i think we should all get these for $500. see? i can do it too!

If you want a MacBook (prefer or stuck in Apple ecosystem), 60hz bothers you, need a wide color gamut for photo/video editing, and need more RAM than MacBook Air M1/M2 or MacBook Pro 14 base model, then this is good option for NEW, You might be able to save like $100 if you wait for refurb offers though.

It's a 2021 laptop that still dunks on all the other similarly-priced high end business/pro grade laptops... The M1 Pro packs some serious performance (even the 8 core base model) with great efficiency, which means:
  1. Excellent battery life, a legitimate 12h+ in general use w/ wifi use, after almost 2 years of regular use.. it's nice not having to worry about charging as much
  2. Silent.. even when the fans kick on during sustained heavy loads, you have to listen for it
  3. Doesn't scream or throttle (thermal/power limit) on battery like most AMD/Intel laptops typically will.. performance is essentially unchanged on battery vs plugged in.

If you disagree, lets see what laptop/price you feel are objectively better.

FWIW: These M1 Pros are able to run local AI LLMs like Llama2 quite well (7b and 13b)
