Okay price, but not exceptional. The X18 18TB was available for $155 from Amazon last month, and you can get it for $160 now with the $10 coupon on the page. (Title says Dell, but it's a Seagate.)

EDIT 10/14: Coupon is no longer there. This (original post) is now clearly the better deal. 🙂

I understand that it has been listed slightly cheaper, however Server Part Deals has a fantastic reputation. Then factor in taxes via Amazon and that the reseller is a relatively unknown "Tech on Tech"..
The other big competitor for cheap recert storage, GoHardDrive also has had them listed lower lately, but many people (including myself) won't go with them again due to horrible issues with their quality and customer support.

Personally I have 40+ drives in production right now from SPD, the oldest of which being just over 2 years of powered on time, not a single failure as of yet.
These were $200 around Christmas last year. No issues with mine running 24/7 in a NAS. Great deal.

I skipped on the Dell branded, only due to the custom dell firmware. I'll stick with factory firmwares for my TrueNas/Synology/NAS deployments. If I needed cheap drives for an EMC device, I would certainly jump on those.

Tech 2 Tech is SPD's Amazon store name. Same comp though

I just purchased two X20 18TB drives for my new DS923+. These drives aren't included in Synology's compatibility list, but I think they should be OK. If anyone with experience using these drives can provide some assurance, I'd be thankful !

What do you guys do to verify integrity of these re certified drives before using them? I've saved a bunch of web articles that I need to read over, but appreciate any first hand feedback provided! TIA

Didn't realize that. Good to know for the future.
Unfortunately with taxes on Amazon, that still drives the cost well over the direct site price.

I'm using the X18 18TB as a hot spare in my RS1221RP+ with no issues. Was recognized and formatted just fine. As a hot spare, it hasn't been stressed, but I'm quite confident in it. YMMV.

Did you rip my older posting?
I don't mind but you need to create the links.. you can't just copy and paste my previous post

The layout looked awful similar to my previous post way back.

So go under "edit" and link the data sheet

Why is this a good deal? It's used with maybe a 60-90 day warranty. Or the 5 year hand shake some promise! I don't see what you folks see,,,, I see a potential nightmare with no good way out. Not good, not bad, just indifferent!
To each there own, for me and plenty of others, SPD been a good source to inexpensive storage. Previously I was shucking WD 8tb, 10tb and 14tb externals which instantly nullifies the warranty anyway. I've had quite a few failures on those drives and WD refused to honor the warranties, even with unshucked drives.. If you look around that SPD specifically has a very good rep of backing up their warranties.
I mainly use these to build big arrays to play with extra large data sets. With a bit of foresight and planning, data loss worries are pretty minimal.
