When the i7-12700KF chip came up for $215 at Amazon a week or so ago I looked at CPU/MB options... this is by far a better deal - great MSI board...
I just received the 12700KF (the $215) did not realize it has such a high TDP and had to order a new cooler. This is a legit deal, but if you buy it get a good cooler.
If anyone has a Microcenter nearby, watch out for their combo deals. Able to snatch a i9-12900k, 32 GB Gskill DDR5 RAM and this MSI motherboard for $400 a few weeks ago and pretty likely they will repeat such deals in the holiday sales.
There was a similar deal for AMD Ryzen 7700x combo for $400 as well. If you want to stay in budget ( while building high specced PC) or prefer smaller cases, AMD might be a better option as you need substantial cooling for Intel processors especially i9 variants.

If that is still available, I'd go for it over this for sure. Yes, it might be $400 vs $350 but you're getting a much beefier 12900k, double the RAM and that too DDR5 instead of DDR5. No brainer.

You think I might be able to get something better by BF?

I doubt it. Microcenter doesn't really make any money selling i9-12900k for $220 as part of that combo, they are just trying to get us to their physical stores.

They aren't terrible and you can set a power limit. It will pull north of 200 Watts, especially overclocked if you leave it wide open and run something really really intense. In most cases however it stays under 100 watts. Mine is on a 280 rad and actually runs pretty cool. You could probably get away with an air cooler if you used a massive one like a d15. set your power limit to something reasonable for your cooler and the frequency wherever you want it or wherever you can properly cool it I should say, figure out your voltages and you should be good to go

Thanks I got a vertical air cooler because this is going on a 4u rack which has excellent ftb airflow so this far doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm not looking to really press it so on idle I'm around 40w so happy enough for what I'm looking to do and won't peg it because most offload will go to the gpu. So I had 150mm clearance.
I'm certainly happy on the price though for the performance is excellent especially because the 14th gen seems to be a nothing burger.
