14th gen launches in a week or so according to reports online. Might be worth it to wait, if not for a faster product then possibly for even more reduced prices for 12th and 13th gen.
also if you are shopping for the whole thing and not only for CPU you may as well consider Microcenter bundle for only a few bucks more! Granted you need access to MC in person

I went this route and was able to return the RAM/mobo. I ended paying $205 for an i9-12900k.
Oh, so my question, is the 13900 worth it? I heard it is super hot, so 12900 seems like a better choice, cooler, cheaper... Unless 13th gen gives you that much more performance and you actually need it. What's your take on it? Thanks for the response btw.

The 13600k is about 10% faster than the 12900k and at the best price I've seen is about 30% more than I paid for the 12900k in August. I opted for the 12th gen because at the time it was the best value at that price and because the 13s run even hotter and I wanted to stick with air cooling. I'm doing mostly office-type work with some occasional photo/video editing and gaming maybe twice a year. I ran my last build for 8 years,
Whether it's worth it to pay more depends on your needs. 12th gen will run DDR5 6000 CL30 almost guarenteed on any halfway decent mobo. If you need to go beyond that, consider a 13. If you're going to be doing a lot of multi-core tasks, that is where the 13 gets its performance gains (single core benches are too close to be of any significanse imho). If I was going 13 and wanted the sweet spot, I think the 13600 is the smart choice.

anything I choose will be better I have gtx 1070 and i5 4690k. Future proof is a myth so I think I will pick whatever. This socked is EOL anyway...
