I have the 25 lb and it is not completely filled. You can hear and feel the sand moving around. They probably just add some more to bring it up to 30 lbs.

Well… sort of… actually… yeah! 😂. I don't slam mine. Think of doing a clean and jerk with an olympic bar but using a weighted ball instead. Squating, then tossing it up as high as you can, catching it then repeating this 24 more times. It's a great full body exercise to include in your exercise program. I have the 25 lb. I'm in for the 30!

I think that's also the point/function of a slam ball, to have some extra air space in them so they don't go bouncing everywhere

Same. But I do slam mine as well. It's just fun. Clean jerk and slam to exhaustion. Though I have another ball that bounces so I can catch it on the way back up from my squat. Throw it into a wall target(tape), and catch it while raising from a squat.
