Bought this for $5 less a few days ago. Also got the 2tb 990 pro for the same price it's "on sale" for rn. Typical Amazon sale bs.

At least I don't feel dumb for buying a week before a big "sale" event.

Picked this version up instead of the Samsung. It was a little cheaper for the WD Black w/HS @69.99. Wish Xbox went this route. Paid around this price but only got around 500gb. LAME

For those buying the 980 pros or maybe even the 990 pros, be sure to check if your firmware is updated if it hasn't already been updated. I had my 980 pro die on me because of the whole firmware fiasco.

How long ago was that? I'm sure any stock has upgraded firmware by now. Lol

For what it's worth, Samsung has it for the same price [samsung.com] (with a rewards account) as well if you prefer the cashback using other sites.

I love Samsung storage space for the most part. Just about all their storage have served me well over the years with no problems. It's just the 980 pro that failed on me. To be fair I did buy mine about a year ago so maybe its been updated, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry and better to just check the firmware. The fact that a similar issue also happened on their newer 990 pros doesn't inspire much confidence in the brand currently. (The RMA process was also a pain). I went ahead and bought a western digital instead, so I'll see how that goes.

Would this drive get hot on a laptop? I bought Samsung EVO 970 m2 SSD in August for my desktop and it runs hot. I had to installed an internal fan inside my desktop.
I am debating whether to buy this 980 PRO today to replace the 256G of my old laptop. I am concerned that this drive gets hot in a laptop.
$50 is a great price.

Have the evo970 2tb in laptop, connected to the metal chassis with a thermal pad. 45c to 50c.

Thanks! I tried to compare Lexar M790 and EVO 980 PRO this afternoon.
Both are on sale today at Amazon. Lexar one is $5 cheaper.
Finally, I ordered Lexar. In August, I bought EVO 970 for desktop and I am not impressed with the hot temperature if it is for laptop.

old laptop then get the p31 sy hynix

https://www.amazon.com/SK-hynix-G...r=8-4&th=1

i was in the same predicament as you. I did not need a gen 4 as my older laptop didnt support it. Previously installed was various SATA 3.5" drives that just heated the crap out of my laptop.
I put in the P31 the heat under my right palm was gone! That alone was worth it. Do a search for sy hynix p31 on slickdeals and lots commented that this drive runs extremely cool

now im just eyeballin' some price drops on the p31 to put into my other computers that max out at gen 3 ssd.
