Can these be used for any secondary purpose like some sort of VR or at least watching movies or something? They seem like they'd be cool to use with my drone, but hard for me to justify $699 or even $519 for something like this if it can't be used for anything else.

Per the product description: "The goggles support Wi-Fi wireless streaming to display videos from mainstream video software using DLNA protocol. And with a power amplifier and a 3.5 mm audio port, you can output synchronous audio for immersive movie-watching."

Warning that DJI still has not addressed pixelation and lag issues with the goggles and iOS DJI virtual flight app used for training flights. The issues have been going on for over a year, making the goggles useless for training with Avata and FPV

At one point, My Brother in law and I had both the Goggles V2 and this newer version: Goggles-2. The G2 has VERY different optics, and the newer version is far more sensitive if you have a wide IPD (inter pupillary distance, the distance between your eyeballs) We both found that once you dialed it in to see the INSIDE edges, the outside edges became blurry. and if you dialed it in for the outside, the inside became blurry, normally this isn't terrible (like with old fatshark HD's) since your focus is usually the center but the DJI HUD has valuable information in both corners... We both kelp our GV2 (earlier version) because it felt more immersive (less like your looking though tubes) and because that older version is edge-to-edge crystal clear even with my 69 IPD (his is 71)

It happens somewhat with meta quest too. Eventually they should make them in at least large and small sizes. They can't cater to the same size head as a 4 foot child and a giant 7 foot person by just adjusting the IPD. The screen per eye should get bigger too. Anyways thanks for sharing your experience about these

Wow. I had no idea this stuff had become so (relatively) affordable. Last time I checked out the drone racing leagues etc on TV was years ago. Color me curious!

Given the high cost of video cards capable of (rock solid) 4k60fps-high-ish settings these days, buying a drone and some fpv goggles seems like a potentially awesome hobby to check out instead of feeding the greedy Nvidia/AMD trolls.

What's the ballpark cost for a quality setup to enjoy this sort of thing?

Does the goggles need to be connected to a phone for gps every time it's used? I saw it on a instafeed video. The v2 didn't have to connect to phone for gps every flight.

On certain firmware updates, yes, you have to connect a phone for remote id compliance. If using an air unit on a non dji drone, no.

damn, that means if I get the avata, I would have to connect everytime before flying? Is there a firmware hack to disable this requirement?
