Just found out that the S9FE edition doesn't have Samsung DeX enabled for external monitor
Got Tab S7 FE 128GB with Buds2 for $130 two years ago. Still works perfectly, not worth spending $300 to upgrade.
Yep, would definitely upgrade if you guys on the Tab S6 variant. I'll keep things short, if you plan to use this for couple years, pay extra $70 and upgrade to the 8GB with 256 storage. Else, get the cheapest one to use, 6GB Ram is okay if you are not resource hungry, you can potential trade this in for the Tab S10 in a year or two.

Those that have the Tab S7FE, there is really no need to upgrade unless you have the 4GB version and is super slow. Can save the Tab S7FE when there is a better trade in deal for the Tab S9/Plus.

samsung is giving me $300 trade-in value for my S7 5G (SM-T878UZKATMB) for the TMO S9 FE 6gb, my net price will be $250. is this a good deal or should i wait for a better trade-in promo which may hopefully come around BF?

I have and love my Samsung Tab S8, but don't mean you have to slam iPads. Honestly they're BY FAR the best tablet for most folks. You and I are power users and so we can appreciate some of the fine points that Samsung tablets have that Apple doesn't. With that in mind, many of your points are outdated or incorrect so allow me to rebut a few for the public that might not be aware:

* Side loading - So many ways. Check out Signulous or alt store
* Extensions ARE available within Safari, the same as iPhone. Just related to deals, I have Ibotta, Honey, urlhasbeenblocked, Capital One, etc
* File manager is called Files. And there are many 3rd party ones now.
* iPad software is far BETTER quality than for Android tablets, and there's more of it (designed for tablet). Most developers barely even give Android tablets special consideration(I have friends in many software companies including Google and Apple). If you've ever opened an app on an Android tablet and it weirdly felt like most of the screen was empty (like most VPN software), you'll immediately know what I mean.

Yes, Apple silicon is faster. You just need to open a game or any pro tools (esp in video, photo, music production) to see the difference.

Not saying an IPad is right for you. Each user knows which tools they use, and needs to decide for themselves which platform gives them the best access to them. Though I'll bet that most folks don't have even **1** of the six apps you listed
AND all iPads get the iOS updates as soon as they are available instead of waiting months for samsung to send out their altered android updates

Outside of the S9 FE getting more updates in the future, by specs, that is a pure downgrade.

Would this be an upgrade over the Tab s6 (not lite)? Thanks in advance.
No, Exynos 1380 is garbage, Tab S6's snapdragon 855 has better performance than it.

Heck no, S7's performance is much better than the S9 FE. Youre paying to trade in a high end tablet for a mid end tablet.

I don't think so. Exynos processors always lag behind in gaming.
The S6 lite also has an exynos processor. You should have been able to tell just by the "lite" name that it is a low end tablet.

I looked it up and the s9 fe has an antutu score of 507 vs 325 for the s6 lite. The big advantage for gaming is actually more ram and double the cores.

If it's just for games I'd prob think a clean up for s6 lite is good enough
Games are the most demanding application for tablets unless you're doing video editing on them.

My kid has the s6 lite 2020 version. She said it's slow and games lag. Is this a good upgrade for her ?
Yes. It's substantially faster.

This deal makes no sense unless there is something specific you want on the S9, like the larger screen on the FE+.
Good point.

Versus the S6 Lite (2022 upgrade), it's a marginal performance upgrade whereas a S6 Lite (2020) trade is a bigger improvement.

This upgrade does have some quality of life upgrades like 45W fast charging and fingerprint unlock.

FWIW... I see posters asking if I should trade in my older Samsung tablet.

Here are some nanoreview processor scores. Do people value updates and battery life? One should also take in account of system updates/security updates and battery life improvement that comes with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Older tablets have big battery degradation as well. Battery life is a high priority to me especially since I don't play demanding games. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE has a very impressive 89 battery life score on nanoreview. Ofcourse some features of older flagship tablets are appreciated like amoled screen are pros.

1. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (snapdragon 865) with 744k antutu and 61 nanoreview score. Released Aug 2020

2. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 (snapdragon 855) with 609k antutu and 54 nanoreview score. Released Aug 2019

3. Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE (Exynos 1380) with 587k antutu and 52 nanoreview score. Released Oct 2023

4. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (Snapdragon 750g) with 444k antutu and 41 nanoreview score. Released June 2021

5. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 (Snapdragon 720g) with 392k antutu and 38 nanoreview score. Released May 2022

6. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2020 (Exynos 9611) with 247k antutu and 27 nanoreview score. Released May 2020

*** No brainer for me to trade-in my old Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite 2020. Big upgrade even though I am happy with my old S6 Lite 2020 even today. It also helps that I got the Samsung Galaxys Buds FE for $45, free book case cover and $27 smarttag 2.

For a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5E with snapdragon 670 (released in April 2019), it has little value. Way less than $150 to me. The processor is similar in performance or tiny smidge better than my old Samsung Galaxy s6 lite 2020. For a 2019 tablet, the degraded battery life must be poor now. I am happy with my samsung galaxy tab s6 lite 2020 but the battery has declined, support system/security updates will stop in half year and I got a high value trade-in so it made sense for me to upgrade. If I had an S5E with a poor lasting battery, I would do the trade-in for $150. If the S5E battery is still holding up decently and you just use it for basic tasks, I would wait for black friday or just use the S5E until it just breaks down completely. Even though my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2020 has a weakened battery, I could still happily use it for like another year. Maybe you can happily use the S5E for another year or not. I really don't sell my old devices whether it be phones/tablets on ebay so trade-ins are more appealing to me.

You can trade up to a new S9FE for only $149.99 (not $300 as you indicate) with your S7 FE.
S7FE is equivalent in size to a S9FE+. There was no smaller S7FE at the time.
