I have a POS OT knife that only came with 1 side sharpened. But this looks like they forgot to sharpen either side.

It's actually quite common for knives to come from the factory with the bevel having one dominant side. Even if you got one, these are probably quite easy to sharpen in a few minutes. I think I have 3 Ozark Trail knives, and all of them came fairly sharp. You may have just happened to get a bad one.

It was a few bucks and the blade is really thin. I think it was just really super budget. But that's OK. It lives in my camping gear and I won't hesitate to use it digging into the ground or anything else, really. It's not going to get any worse due to abuse. That's the niche it fills. LMAO

Yeah, I don't own too many but for a few bucks they're decent for light use. I grabbed a couple last year when they had their own Walmart/Ozark Trail crossbar lock. I think they called it a "shift lock>" For a few bucks they're not bad though. Sharpened one the other day and took like 3 minutes to put a nice edge on it. Smilie

I have a Ozark knife that was ~$2 in store, since discontinued. It's my go to hiking knife. Cheap, sharp, strong enough, no regrets if lost or damaged or taken away by TSA at the airport.

These look very similar and I will buy the set for when I lose the current one. Thanks OP!

Nice! I use them too as "beater" knives. Have a great day! Smilie

If I had $5 and needed a knife, I'd head to Walmart for one of the OT knives rather than grab something at a gas station. I've got an OT fixed blade and the folder with the crossbar lock that I love for the money.

I'm seeing a AUS10 for $5-6 (2.6/3.3 inch) on Amazon and I didn't realize that is considered a budget steel, but it seems like today there's some really affordable but well performing options. The sellers lifetime rating is a bit low for SD user posts (but still hundreds) and they sell a lot of different things but I'm guessing it's worth spending a few points from the Prime card on it.

For that price I would be suspect that it is actually AUS10 steel and/or that it got a quality heat treatment. It's pretty common, especially with knives coming out of Pakistan. Read the reviews and remember you can always return it since Amazon takes pretty good care of it's customers. Though, if the fulfillment is by a 3rd party seller, you may only have 30 days.
