how is this device for purposes of purely serving up movies/tv shows?
I don't need it to run the plex server - but if it can, that would be cool, as I run plex from a different machine
how secure/stable is this one?
edit: sounds like it is terrible for plex server and crashes and can't even server 720p video. but maybe perfectly fine as a regular NAS serving files?

The Terramaster has TRAID, similar to Synology's SHR, a preferred RAID type for some people.
I'm holding out for a Synology sale, looking into the DS423+, but this one looks like a good alternative. Honestly just don't like how it looks.

I'm new to the NAS but have a hazy idea
Is this a reliable solution
Heard good things about Synology

- do you guys run some type of raid? so based on 80 TB, what is true capacity?
- does this hw really able to run 4k videos or do I really need another computer to serve these files and do transcoding on the pc
Edit: I should say my 5bay version has lower spec hardware. Only a dual core celeron and 2 1gig ports. Still, works great.

If you don't like their OS, just replace the booting usb drive with yours and run the TrueNAS/Unraid/DSM on it.
So, good deal!
