Acurite is a horrible company. They discontinue products and decide to FORCE you to buy new hardware to keep your current setup running. I will never use them again.

I swapped to Ambient Weather and couldn't be happier.
It is more expensive but such a higher quality product.

the outside weather array tends to last a couple of years. then some sensor on it goes out. the replacement array runs $85. right now its $79 on acurite with a basic display. keep the old weather arrays in case you need a replacement part.

do note that the outside weather arrays listed in the original post and first post are the older models with just one solar panel. the newer one has 2 solar panels.

I've had the older (non-WiFi version) of this weather display for 4 years and love it. I don't track and trend data because hooking up a USB cord to a computer is too involved for how much time I'd probably give it. If mine died and I needed a new one, I would absolutely buy this to replace it. Slick deal OP

the outside weather array tends to last a couple of years. then some sensor on it goes out. the replacement array runs $85. right now its $79 on acurite with a basic display. keep the old weather arrays in case you need a replacement part.

do note that the outside weather arrays listed in the original post and first post are the older models with just one solar panel. the newer one has 2 solar panels.

I have the old one with 1 solar panel. It works fine except for a half hour in the afternoon in summer I get a temperature spike. This is due to the sharp angle of the sun not hitting the solar panel and the internal fan shuts off. You can buy the upgraded 2 panel one for about 37 bucks on Amazon, I just haven't bothered yet.

I have mine online and a university meteorologist is using the data for a wind study for a local small airport right right now. It was pretty interesting to meet them.

what i have seem over the years is that you have to do your research as a sale on acurite might not be that good of deal and better elsewhere like on amazon etc.

Had Acurite 5 in 1 for a few years. As others have said, sensors only last a few years. Issue I had with both models was the plastic isn't treated for UV and becomes ultra brittle. After the second go with Acurite, made the switch to Ambient Weather. That was 6 years ago and have had 0 problems. Other benefit with the Ambient Weather stations is the bases are wifi, so it's really easy to set up remote monitoring and also integrate with weatherunderground or other services that log weather data. I'll probably do the same thing, once a sensor fails or something breaks I'll upgrade it to the 2 panel. I've had it up for 3.5 years now and still going strong on the original batteries (Energizer lithium)
