Anyone own this unit? I don't believe this comes with an option to open the flame for some nice searing like the pit boss series?

Unless they have made some significant changes to the controller or sensor, do NOT buy this smoker. I really wanted to love it and gave it multiple chances, but it has continued to fail me over and over. The build quality and features are great for the price, but it has issues that needs fixing. After 90 days, the warranty covers parts, but you have to pay for shipping. I replaced the controller and the sensor on separate occasion before I decided to give up on it. When I have time I'm returning it to Sam's.

I bought this last year for $200 when they cleared them out. I thankfully have not had the control issue as the second comment here has. For the price I think this thing can't be beat. It's just as good as my friends that have either a traeger, a z grill or a pit boss. Tons of space and consistent smokes.

Now to answer your question there is no sear option unfortunately. Personally I've only used this to smoke so haven't needed that function but I get that it would be nice to have it.

I had the same issue and decided not to mess with it. Returned to Sam's.

This is a great pellet grill. I have had others and was impressed with this one. It gets up to 500 degrees with no issues and keeps the temperature. They are available also in the store, limited supply, for $199. Shipping is free if you are a plus member.

Bought this in store 2 weeks ago for $199. First cook was NY strip which turned out amazing. There are also 2 thermometers that come with it, so that's a nice touch. No issues with the controller or anything and build quality is good. The only thing I ran into was it ran a bit hotter than I wanted when trying a slow cook. This was easily resolved by watching a few YouTube videos and understanding how to use the P1/P2/P3 setting and other features. I would advise anyone who buys this to watch their YouTube videos and videos about pellet grills and also season the grill.

Wish I would have seen these when they were in store for $200. All out of stock within hours of me. I have plus and can get it shipped for free but would rather have saved the $50.

Got this for $199 a few weeks ago and love it. However I do worry about the controller go out b/c it deems the whole thing useless. But if it doesn't it's an awesome deal.

How difficult is it to clean out the ash after a cook? Do the grates and deflector need to be removed?

Grates and deflector is easily removed. Just use a shop vac to clean it out.
