Sorry but wtf are you talking about. Going from a 3700X to a 5800X3D is a MASSIVE performance jump. Not at all a waste of $. Undervolting is a great way to drop temps and eke out a bit more performance, but is definitely not a necessity.

You absolutely do not need to undervolt the 7800X3D. The point of undervolting is to reduce power consumption (and therefore heat generation) so that you can get higher frequencies, but it's pretty much impossible to thermally throttle a 7800X3D, even in an small form factor case. Your 5800X3D uses 70% more power, so it makes sense that it'd make a difference for you.

Depends on cooling and motherboard. I dropped my basic 7700x (not X3D) voltage by a hair, it performs a little better than stock due to higher temp headroom. It's also silicone lottery.

What even is this? No you don't need to do anything special to a 5800X3D. Just want to lower your temps a little and get the same performance? Cool but 1000% not necessary. Carry on folks.

I will wait till they hit $300 so I can upgrade my MB & RAM also. My 5900x undervolted is a gem, can hit 5ghz with 75'c max on benching.

Hey everyone,
Looking for some advice from the pros out there:
I currently have an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor running with a 3080 RTX. I use it for trading on 4 monitors and am typically running quite a few programs at once that are streaming alot of data concurrently. Other than trading, I do play FPS games on here and would love a boost in frames - which would be my main reason for considering this. Would this hamper my ability to run a bunch of programs at once while trading or would I not even notice?

Without adjusting voltage my chip hit 95c on an EK 240 loop... Doesn't go past 80 now. It's absolutely needed.
