The reason for the clearance sale is because of the they updated the line. The only major change I noticed to hikelite 18 is they reinforced the bottom of the water bottle pockets. For comparison, the updated hikelite 18 is $120

At $38, it is roughly 70% off. At this price point, you won't find a better backpack. It is a no brainer imho.

I have never ever seen this high-end of a brand at Grocery Outlet.

Yep. I grabbed the hikelite today and loaded it up and went on a small hike at 12,000 ft. Was really nice. The frame and the air mesh… it's just so simple and feels tough… and I don't have to worry about it just throw it around and it's so light. The rapter feels over designed and heavy.
Edit/ After the hike, at home noticed it had shredded the back of a new Patagonia shirt.

I got the hikelite 18 after seeing this reassurance. Well, after a 2 hour hike the backpack shredded a brand new Patagonia shirt. Returning it. The osprey website is full of reviews of people saying it shreds shirts (the lower part of a shirt, it's the mesh/rough material at the back/bottom of the pack.
