$6 is a great price, but not only that, you get HFT's lifetime warranty. Even more expensive U Joints break, so a lifetime warranty is nice to have, esp at only $6. Oh, and btw, if you'd prefer a Snap-On set of universals (and honestly, who wouldn't), you can order a set direct from Snap-On for only $205 [snapon.com] (plus shipping).

Snap on serves a market with a different set of priorities than you or I (the main stream). Dealer mechanics have set the priorities of getting a good deal as lower than other priorities. Industry in general has the same mentality. This is why drones that sell in the consumer market or even prosumer market for $1500-$2500 will sell in the enterprise market for $15,000-$30,000. Because of priorities, and they value their time as a higher priority to finding a fair deal. Excellent customer service, fast response and turn around, loaner replacements while theirs is out on repair, all these things save them time. They make more money saving time and remaining working. If they had to deal with longer customer service interactions, down time waiting to get tools/parts back, they would loose far more money than they would save by looking for fair deals. This is the market snap on targets, but to provide that kind of service to satisfy elevated expectations, price must go up.
So it's not "low IQ" that causes dealer mechanics to turn to snap on. It's the time they save that allows them to keep on working on people's cars at $250 an hr that brings them in. And they are willing to pay top dollar for that.

These old style u joints I prefer less than the newer design joints like those made for impact wrenches. This old style joint uses a third piece to connect the two different axis of rotation. The newer designs the two axis of rotation parts are connected directly to each other, no third part (the block in the middle). The newer designs, on top of being stronger, feels smoother and without that third piece, shifts far less when under load and more off angle. I only use my old design u joints only if I can't find the newer design ones that are made for impact wrenches. Maybe that's why these old designs are dropping in price, the newer designs are more sought after.
