I have the ex5s and paid $1200. Its an excellent bike all around imo. The ex3 does not have the hd touch screen , has one less handlebar adjustment, and I believe is lighter weight overall. At $239 its a good deal but I would prefer a connected hd touchscreen and having something more durable.

if you use the bike daily most people will enjoy having the connected touch screen for the classes. If your not planning to do classes or not planning to use the bike weekly then obviously you don't need a screen. I'm sure some people are tech savvy to connect their ipad. Your paying a premium for the convenience of having it altogether and not having to connect an external device for classes. The quality of echelon I will add is equal to if not better than peloton bikes.
