The downvotes are probably towards your response to the information on the laptop. They're most likely showing that they don't agree with your assessment that it should be a hard pass for that reason. I personally really like backlit keyboards, but I know others that see them as completely useless (at best, just a pointless extra cost, and at worst, a battery drainer).
Great to see this price point return with a Dell that is equipped with a touch screen (after a string of deals at this price point being equipped with the 120Hz non-touch screen).

Plenty of users will gripe about the 8GB of RAM... but this price point and configuration would allow users with the immediate need an easy upgrade (this laptop has two SO-DIMM slots, one of which is available), while those users running no more than a few browser tabs and/or Word will find 8GB sufficient for now.

Another nice bonus is the fact that this manages to be Zen 3 based.

Good luck!

Definitely one of the everyday compromises is the power source. This should be a non-issue for those not optimizing for portable/mobile usage (where having a single adapter for your phone/tablet/laptop is facilitated by USB-C). Of course, one of the old-school systems for consolidating power is using the laptop USB ports for device charging while using the laptop brick for connection to wall power. Of course, this limits the charging rate of any connected devices. Shoppers for a killer college student configuration might otherwise keep holding out if that's an option.

However, another typical compromise implemented in this configuration is the Realtek RTL8821CE 1x1 wireless adapter. This limits your throughput to a maximum 433Mbps via Wi-Fi. Fortunately the documentation suggests that this platform supports an adapter with a 2x2 configuration using the Realtek RTL8852BE. Hopefully the internal connections might be available for those interested in upgrading this at some point(?). This problem may not be meaningful for a large group of users, but it is worth mentioning given the increasing availability of gigabit+ internet speeds

Good luck!
Jon

Hard pass for me.
Yea was hoping for backlit. But at this price guess they had to cut something.

I assume this works with the same promo code ARMMPPS - and unique 10% off coupon code you receive via email = $308.69?
For $308.69 this is kinda a crazy deal.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not getting this. I'm still looking for a nice laptop with USB C charging.

This is basically a faster 5600U. So it runs at 4.5Ghz vs 4.2 and the GPU runs at 2Ghz vs 1.8. But has the same memory controller, 3200Mhz DDR4, and on 7nm Node.

So that is why I listed it as such. If someone is ok with a 5600u this will just be a little faster. If they want a true updated chip then the 7X40 amd chips are Zen4. But have not seen any of them at the $400 or lower range like the 7x30 Zen3 chips.

220 nits, 45% NTSC gamut display.

USB-C port only supports data, no video out.

HDMI port is limited to 1080p.

Ouch.

Now that 220 nits IS a deal breaker. I was about to ask my wife if we needed another laptop, but I don't need one with a screen that seems dim indoors.

A great call-out. Unsurprisingly, this display is very much typical for the low price point. However, nits tends to be the primary variable documented when in fact the luminance value should go hand-in-hand with the color gamut as a wider color gamut display would have a higher perceived brightness than a lower color gamut display rated for the same luminance (the value measured in nits).

Here's a link to a Samsung article on the subject: https://global.samsungdisplay.com/31160

Good luck!
