No. You buy the series again like it was any normal purchase. But it should show $0.00 due at checkout if the upgrade is going to kick in.

It's also possible to be charged for the difference if you originally paid less than the current price.

It's supposed to be a standardly available perk when a better resolution gets offered for certain TV series. But Vudu doesn't broadcast it much & isn't very great about applying it because, well ...Vudu.

I basically wanted to let people know about these upgrades because I don't know of any new release list & these were too good to miss.

But given the feedback, the upgrade policy isn't necessarily common knowledge. And like everything Vudu, isn't necessarily getting applied correctly. So it looks like it was worth posting for a few reasons.

When tv seasons get an upgrade in resolution, Vudu always discounts it by the $ u already paid for the lower resolution.

This is old news on how Vudu offers their upgrades on TV seasons. This works on any TV show season when a higher resolution is available for something u bought, doesn't have to be bbc. This was way more noticable back when older TV shows were available only in SD and then later was available in HDX leading to all free upgrades.

So it's a "free" upgrade if u bought it for the same price as it is now. If u got it on sale in the past then u would have to wait for it to be on sale again to get the free upgrade or pay the difference if u don't wanna wait.

The "season complete" feature is pretty interesting too though it's hardly advertised anymore by vudu either

Does the free upgrade promo appear on the My Offers [vudu.com] page on your account if you are eligible?

If I don't have these already is it worth $10 for the 4k digital? 4k ultra bluray or whatever would be great but at this point I'm not ponying up for a 4k player.

4K streaming is basically physical blu-ray quality. 4K UHD discs can be 100GB. It you stream a 4K movie, it is under 20GB. Although compression standards are quite good, compressing that far, you are going go lose quality. The audio is the first to get butchered.

The upgrade isn't a glitch or even a deal. As far as I know, it's supposed to be SOP. It might be worth complaining to Vudu.

I bought Blue Planet II Season 1 from Amazon in HD. They are still selling it as HD, but when I go to the Amazon Prime app on my Roku, the BPII page says UHD. However, I don't trust it. Does anyone else have BPII on Amazon, and could you tell if the picture is HD or 4K/UHD? Usually, I'll know because an HDR indicator pops up to let me know it's 4K, but BPII isn't in HDR like 90% of 4Ks..

Can you tell from looking at the size of the download options? (I don't have Roku)
