I'm also adding aerovoir(s) to my setup https://aerogarden.com/accessorie...-0100.html so the total work after initial set-up involved will be topping up water once a week, adding fertilizer every 2 weeks. There are some additional possible steps like pollination, pruning, root trimming but I might just not bother because I'm lazy as hell. If the plant dies it dies.
In my last run, I was able to get dill, basil, mint, and thyme growing to 15 inches+ using branded pods in my current unit (Harvest, non-elite), but I didn't use them for cooking nearly as much as I thought and was too lazy to prune them regularly so they grew kind of out of control. If you just want herbs on hand, tbh grocery store is probably still better and you'll get herbs that are less overgrown (e.g. basil gets less fragrant as the plant gets larger and larger).
I'm personally going to try lettuce and strawberries for my next batch- something that I'd regularly harvest and eat rather than "have on hand" and never use.
averages down to $55 per unit
this is a great deal on the slim elite. I paid $40 for the base slim on a special Macy's clearance I've never seen it that cheap again.

Please disregard my question. I don't need another project nagging at me from the bottom of a long list of projects that I haven't started yet.

You have to replace the herbs and veggies after a while, since the cut stems and other parts of the plants add up to the point that it doesn't grow properly any longer. This is especially noticeable in lettuce. It happens with dill, parsley, and similar herbs, but not quite as fast.
