Southwest CompanionPass
1. Get Southwest Performance Business credit card for 80000+5000 points after spending $5000 in 3 months
2. Get one of the personal credit cards to get 50000+1000 points after spending 1000 in 3 months
The above 2 cards will get you 136000 Southwest rapid reward points qualifying you for a companion pass.
The bonus points are posted on the statement date following your spending requirements are met. Therefore, make sure to complete spending requirements and combined $5000 spending ONLY AFTER your December statements so that the points are awarded/posted in January and then the companion pass will be good for 2024-25. If you time it properly you can get the pass effective Jan 4 or 5

Also, you can pay your estimated federal taxes using credit card. 1.85% fee is outweighed by points and bonuses. To do this you can reduce federal withholding at source and pay 1040ES every quarter with credit card. The above tax payments do count towards spending.

Others have mentioned buying grocery store gift cards, Amazon gift cards, pre-paying electric or internet bills... stuff you'll eventually use anyway… There should be a number of no-fee options vs. paying a 2.5% fee on several thousand dollars… on top of the $268 it will cost you in annual fees for the business and personal Southwest cards.
Also, it seems like y'all are signing up for the cards now? The timing there confuses me as I know you'd need to hit the spending amount sometime past January 1, right? So you can go ahead and get both cards, start spending, but make sure to only surpass the total amount in the month of January, is that right?
Last, given I currently have the Southwest personal card, can I cancel it and go ahead and get a new one approved immediately for a new sign up bonus? If I cancel it today, how long do I have to wait to get the new personal card? Thanks for any help y'all. CP for '24 and '25 would really help us out.
Will I be able to link my existing RR# to that card later on or not?
Also, I see a promotion in my RR account to register for companion pass ASAP, do I have to do that or just get the points on the card and then register?

If so, disregard!

If you have 5 new personal credit cards (from ANY issuer) within the last 2 years you will be denied any new Chase card.
Also, I cancelled my CC only a few months ago, so don't think I can apply for it again right? I'm planning to have my wife open them up this time.

You can go into your southwest RR history, if the bonuses were awarded in past 24 months, they will show up
