This is the only option. But it's essentially what you said… spend x within 3 months to get companion pass. If that's too complex this probably isn't for you.
Too many hoops?

You can't apply for one and your significant other another. Both have to be the same name and same account. It's probably been noted in thread but preferred to apply for business first because that SUB is 80k points. Difficult to get companion pass with only personal card since that SUB is 50k points now. Once you get approved for business card. Recommended to apply for personal a month later (as long as you haven't received bonus in past 2 years). You could apply for both at same time but you may not be approved.
I actually bit the bullet and got their highest tier card, Reserve, for access
to Sky Club etc. Nothing crazy as far as signup bonus. SW is by far the better deal but unfortunately becoming less and less usable.
I just lost Companion for the first time in over a decade this month. (I hit 115,000 pts or so).
I actually still very much loathe Delta. But they have gotten rid of my biggest grip - $200 change/refund fee. And I have found that their upgrade fee (not at the time of booking) to First Class to be reasonable on a couple routes I took this past year (+/-$100 one-way).

I did it with just one card and one spend target in 2021/2022. I applied in End of 2021 and met the spend target in Apr 2022 and had CP until Dec 2023, I'm wondering if that CP with only one card offer will come up again?
