I've found the thermostat significantly lacking in functionality compared to a nest (granted, nest is at a much higher price point). With this, you have three presets- home, away, and sleep. You get to set one temp for each of those and build your schedule around that... you can then adjust manually via echo devices or at the unit.

I bought two of these last July 2022. One upstairs, one downstairs. Both were working fine for a few days, and then Amazon did a firmware update. The update bricked the downstairs one. After going through many levels of Amazon and Honeywell's CS over the next several days, Amazon finally sent me a replacement. I installed the replacement with no further issues.

Both are working well. I like the ability to change my temps remotely from an Echo Dot or my phone. They have all the features I want or require. I've never had to reset or reboot them since my replacement arrived.

One caveat: Prior to installing them the first time, I measured the voltage of the blue C-wire. It measured 28v on my multimeter. But, they would not turn on. I finally called my HVAC guy. He was at my house immediately. He measured the same voltage and was perplexed as I was. After crawling up in my attic and hooking up the C-wires, the thermostats worked right away. He said I was getting an inductive voltage reading. A false reading. I tried to pay him, but he wouldn't take my money. He's a keeper.

I got one of these about 18 months ago from Woot. There's an issue that they couldn't have known about it. It connects fine but after a few minutes it loses Wi-Fi connectivity. The only way to fix it is to redo the setup all over again. After about an hour or so, it happens again. I actually liked the simplicity of it. I just ended up getting a new one from Amazon. The new one works great and has no issues. Just a heads up to get it installed and test out all the functionality before your return period ends with the non new versions.

Anybody know if this works with 2 stage heat and 2 stage cool? I could not find a direct answer. tia
No confirmation from Amazon, but I have seen reports that it only supports 2 stage heating OR cooling, not both simultaneously.

There are MANY other choices in the $50 range. I personally still have an old honeywell as all the different versions use the SAME app for control. Amazon is already talking about how they can go about charging for alexa but what do I know...you do you.

It's silly to lock yourself into 1 provider for home automation. I'd prefer the OPTION to use apple home or home assistant. Amazon refuses to make it's devices cross compatible.

am I the only one who hates the minimalist display/interface of this, nest, and other copycats?

It's got a computer and a screen, it's wasted transistors for what it does, IOT or not.
I feel the same. Nest was complete trash. Like someone that never has used a tstat designed it, and "minimalist" too. App was horrible.

Where was Wyze on similar price? please advise. Thanks...

My mistake. It was the wyze doorbell that was $29 @ woot. Now dead. https://slickdeals.net/f/16884395-refurb-wyze-smart-plug-cam-v2-cam-v3-doorbell-camera-and-more-starting-9-99-w-fs-for-prime-members?v=1

If you like honeywell (this is the one I use) which can also be controlled by alexa, google home etc the Used - Like New (says minor damage to the box) on Amazon is $36.02

Amazon app is trash. The hunches are horribly inaccurate and don't change even after months of use to correct times. Routines are bare bones, you cannot set it to turn off when all people are out of home. Thr Honeywell thermostats this is based on can do it through their apps.

Some people prefer not to see the front page of the daily news on their thermostat.

Any benefit in getting this if you only have radiator heating. No central A/C?

I have issues with these dropping off the WiFi. They will randomly just disconnect for hours and then magically reconnect themselves. And the length of time it takes to connect to them from the app, I might as well walk over and manually adjust them.

It actually does NOT work with 2 heat/2 cool. I bought this a couple months ago and literally just went through this with Amazon and Honeywell (who makes and supports Amazon thermostats) 2 weeks ago when I got a new HVAC unit, and installed the t-stat. I ended up using this one for another house.

Honeywell actually recommended quite a few of them, but this is what I ended up getting: Honeywell Home RENEWRTH9585WF Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat (Renewed). Since the support was so great when I was trying to get the Amazon one to work, I went with the renewed one. I also got it from Amazon Warehouse, almost brand new, and it came out to be around $60. Usually they are around $200. Use WRTH9585WF to see the reviews. Here's the link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3Q14...tails&th=1

It literally showed up this week, so I haven't set it up yet. But I've found that if you search for "2 Heat / 2 Cool" on Amazon then it brings up quite a few options. Most are at $150-$200 though. I also thought about the Nest, which was $80 this week, but I've asked 3 HVAC techs and they all say they hate working on the Nest. They all like the Honeywell.

Hope that helps! Smilie
